Which digi-cam for $150 to $200 do you recommend?

I can't decide. So far I've added the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W290 and Canon PowerShot SD780IS to my list for consideration but I think there may be others that are better. What do you suggest?

Nutmeg, cilantro, sage, mint, thyme... these are a few of my favorite things! Visit The Nest!Visit The Nest! We have four children; one left us too soon.

  • I vote the canon. I prefer canon as a manufacturer overall, and was looking into that one myself to purchase had i not gotten the other thing i wanted!

  • The Canon is supposed to be a good camera.  I've seen a lot of good reviews of that model.  I almost got it for my parents, but went with the Canon SD1200 IS instead because they didn't need the fancier features of the SD780 IS.
  • Go with the Canon. I heard somewhere, and not sure if it's true, that with a Sony, they have special cards that can't be used in other cameras. So, rather than a standard SD, they have a Sony version that won't work elsewhere. I'd say for longevity and ease of trading in later, go with the Canon. I have a Kodak, both in a 12mp and a 6mp. We love them and they do what we need for a great price. When we compared to the Nikon and Canon, it came out on top for a better price. Definitely go to the store and tinker with the cameras to see what you like best.

  • Definitely Canon. Sony does use expensive proprietary memory cards (called MemorySticks) and lithium ion batteries. Canons are very user-friendly and well-priced.
