Re: Weekend/Holiday Updates
Thursday and Friday I relapsed with my cold, so I was feeling pretty crappy to start off 2010
We had already planned to just hang at home for NYE, so we didn't have to cancel any plans or anything. I spent most of New Years Day napping, which was quite nice, actually
On Saturday, we went to see some townhouses. We were hoping to see three, but couldn't arrange a time to see one of them. Of the other two, we took a closer look at the one we had seen back in Nov when they had an open house, and still really, really liked it. The one we hadn't seen....well, it turned out to be a bit of a dump - needed way more work than we want to deal with at this point in our lives. So we made plans with the REA to look at more places next weekend, thinking if we still liked the one we'd seen in Nov the best, we'd be ready to make an offer.
Well....then on Sunday, we got a call from our REA that someone had put an offer in on the one we'd seen in Nov!! Bummer! So we said, well, we've got nothing to lose, and we know our limit of what we'd feel comfortable spending on the place, so we had him call in our offer to the seller's agent - turns out the other offer was higher than we were willing to go, so unless that sale falls through (I can dream!), we can kiss that townhouse goodbye. Ah well. What are ya gonna do? The same day, a new one in the same development came on the market for less money, so we're going to see that one next weekend.
The rest weekend was spent trying to catch up on laundry and housekeeping and everything that we fell behind on in December. We also made a new recipe from the slow-cooker cook book I got for Xmas!

My ILs ended up coming on NYE rather than NY Day. We were just having a friend and her son over, but it was definately a different dynamic having my ILs there. We hung out, played Wii (my MIL kicked my butt in Wii bowling), at chinese, and rang in the New Year. First year in MANY that I was actually not in bed at midnight.
Friday Grayson was sick with whatever Carter had last weekend (cold/fever/etc) so I stayed home with him while the rest of them went to walk at the mall and do a test run to the boys' school (ILs took them to school this morning.)
Saturday Gray was still under the weather so I stayed home with the boys while the ILs went to walk the mall and Leanne went to a doc appt. Gray was feeling better by mid afternoon so we went to lunch. The wind here was ridiculous and it was bitterly cold.
Sunday I got to stay home alone while the rest braved the winds/cold. After nap, our friends/babysitter came over to give the boys their Christmas gift (Imaginext Firehouse, if anyone is looking for a good 3y old gift!) it was a HIT. We went to a Japanese Steakhouse since my MIL had never been and my FIL ate white rice (that is ALL he would eat.)
L is having surgery today so we had to be up at 4am in order to be at the hospital at 5:30. I would love to take a nap in this waiting room, but I got the cold that the boys had and I am afraid I would be sawing logs due to by stuffy nose.
Happy New Year!
We spent NYE with some much-needed downtime. I worked from home and Andrea came home early while the kids were still in daycare for some reconnecting and rest time. It was heaven. Then we spent the evening at a casual party with friends where we got to show off the kids
Everyone was home and asleep by 11pm. Unfortunately Rosebud had one of her very few bad sleeping nights and we didnt get much rest and i "woke up" (in quotations b/c i never actually slept) with a cold. ugh, i knew it was going to happen between the kids in daycare and me running ragged but its just really not convenient to be sick when you've got kids
Friday was an at-home mellow day - puzzles, playdough, baking projects w/ my little helper, outside play, ect. Sounds relaxing, but these days are actually the most exhausting b/c Sprout needs constant attention/activity. By the afternoon we are scrambling to think of things to entertain him....not to mention the whining, meltdowns, ect.
Saturday was another at-home day. We had friends come over mid-morning which was lovely. many friends come over and just pay attention to Rosebud, but they actually brought a puzzle for Sprout and played, and interacted with him with ease. It was great to get a semi-break and some new energy in the house. Despite that, though, by the evening i was really struggling. I was sick, tired, and my patience had worn thin...then when i saw that it was supposed to snow all day sunday (thus we'd be stuck in the house AGAIN) i nearly lost it. Luckily my wife is my rock and she helped me get through it. I have so much respect for single parents. i have NO idea how they do it.
Sunday morning Rosebud was up early and we all just really NEEDED to get out of the house. A had told Sprout she'd take him to chuckie cheese and even though i'm not a fan of that place (overstimulation, germ-factory), I was desperate. So, we got everyone packed up and at CC for thier opening. We were the first family in the door and it was so nice!! finally sprout could run around and play while i got to sit with rosebud, drink my coffee in peace, and read the paper. Apparently thats the time to go b/c there were a max of 10 kids the entire time we were there. The miracle of all miracles was that we didnt have a meltdown when it was time to go! Sure, there was a little whining, but no temper tantrums!! This was our first public outing w/ Sprout in which he didn't cry and have a meltdown! Oh, it was amazing. please oh please dont let this be a fluke. The rest of the evening went relatively smoothly and it only took 30 minutes to put Sprout to bed (previously 1-2 hours). To top it all off, Rosebud slept 8 hours! Not consecutively and not in her crib, but i'll take it

Bummer about the first condo, but another popping up for sale is great! I was the 2nd and lower offer on my first house. The first offer fell through and I snagged the house, so you never know... :-)
Sending lots of healthy vibes L's way!
E - Thanks. I always wonder who these parents are that have "relaxing days" at home. I HATE being home all day with the kids. We need to be out and about, DOING things. I find it utterly exhausting to be home all day since we are entertaining the whole time (you'd think with twins they would play together - not so much - they just fight) and the kids don't get the energy out that they need to.
Also check out Chic-fil-a. The one near our house has free kids meals (with purchase of a value meal) on Tuesdays and they have an indoor crawl/play space. Not the most nutritious dinner and a total germ factory, but they go to bed happy and tired!
CT - Do you have a YMCA near you? Some of them have "open gym" time for toddlers when they can run around with toys and get out some energy for an hour. Also, I don't know if you have a My Gym location near you - but when I was a nanny, that was the toddler's favorite thing! They have classes you can sign up for, but also open gym times for play. There were also a couple of indoor playgrounds we went to that were awesome for 2-4 year olds. In the winter, it's so great to have some of these places to go to. Oh, and another option is if a local mall as an indoor playspace!
Ditto!

Our weekend was really nice.
New Year's Eve - we built all of our nursery furniture. It was a great way to start the new year!
Friday - was spent painting the walk-in closet in the nursery and doing other projects around the house. We also continued our tradition of watching the entire previous season of The L Word. Since we didn't start this until after 11pm it meant we were up until 6am but it was fun. I'm going to miss those ladies
Saturday - we put the wall border up in the nursery and K decorated with some wall appliques. It's so great to see the nursery almost finished!
Sunday - after spending two days inside doing house projects we needed a day off. We went to see Sherlock Holmes (great movie!) and wandered the mall a bit. A quick dinner out and we were both relaxed and as ready as we could be for work today
I'm not totally giving up hope!

thanks for the recs
i do have a list of indoor play places that i've been collecting (i just about have a play place/activity for every day of the week, lol). the tricky thing is Sprout's behavioral issues when we leave the house. Outings can be quite traumatic for him, and us, so we're trying to feel our way through it. the fact that we went to CC sans tantrum is a great sign and i'm hoping, hoping, hoping, we can do more in the future when we get the behavioral issues under control.

Up until 6am?? i'm impressed - there is no way i could do that, even for the L word!

Got it. It is a lot of work getting two little ones to/from anywhere - throw in some tantrums and it's downright exhausting. I'll never forget the one day that I had to leave the library in the middle of storytime with a baby in one arm and a screaming toddler in the other [;-)]

Friday was nice. We were still in CO and went to Breckenridge. In our typically exciting fashion, we spent NYE watching bad Tv. sweet
The weekend was pretty uneventful - I spent all day Sat on a plane, and Sunday I drove home from NJ (I'd flown out of EWR so my parents could drive me), picked up the dog, unpacked, picked up C at the airport, got dinner, board meeting, home, bed. Sigh!
Happy New Year!
We had a so-so NYE. We had a friend and her daughter over. It was kind of a disaster but I expected it. Her daughter has become horrible and rude and mom just sits there and takes it. I could hardly hold my tongue. Actually, I did say something at one point. It wasn't my business but I could not keep quiet another second. Plus, her husband showed up unannounced! ICK.
The rest of the weekend we cleared out the winter decorations, put up Valentine's Day, played with my new Cricut and tried to relax a little bit.
I hope L's surgery goes well, Mrs.F gets her perfect condo ,CT gets out of the house more and that 2010 is happy, healthy and prosperous for everyone!
Happy happy new year.
I am so glad to be back home, although not too excited to be back at work.We spent 5 loooong painful days with my family followed by a lovely weekend at home, doing nothing. I went to cakelove with my sister and bought a box of cupcakes so DW and I had a cupcake a day all weekend. We watched gilmore girls dvds from the library, made popcorn, did yoga and talked about whether/when we want to have a baby. She also made oodles of bread, which we then drove around delivering to our friends.
NYE was tons of fun! We went out dancing at our favorite lesbian club. We had to cut the night kind of short though cuz I started to not feel all that great. We spent New Year's Day in bed watching movies and nursing my REALLY bad chest cold. The wife made me homemade chicken soup and we cuddled all day. So all in all not a bad way to spend a holiday (Sometimes I like being sick because I eat up all the attention K gives me LOL)
The weekend was unevenful because K had o go back to work. I spent my days in bed watching The *** Van *** show on netflix!
Now that the holidays are over it's back to reality!
We had a wonderful holiday and weekend! New Year's Even was spent making fondue and watching Food, Inc., which was such a great film. New Year's Day was very relaxing. We spent most of the day in pjs playing wii games. On Saturday, we met up with some new friends and their two kids. They used the same fertility clinic that we are using so it was great to talk with them about their process. Sunday, we started preparing for the week--cooking, cleaning, and taking down the Christmas decor. Man--it was tough getting back to work after two weeks off! Happy 2010 ladies!
