POLL: Do you Iron or Steam Iron your clothing???

I have found that with steaming all of my clothes instead of ironing, I save time, looks nicer (even with creases) and IMO not as much of a chore. I am curious to see if anyone else does this??[Poll]

I chose iron because that's what I do most of the time but we have a steamer and an iron. Some clothes work better with the steamer, some work better with a hot iron.

  • i bought a steam iron so i could get away from ironing (which i despise), but it doesn't really get the wrinkles out of my clothes.  I wear button up shirts to work and i've tried to steam those, but they just look frumpy still, when i'm done.  maybe i'm not doing something right... any tips?

so, right now, i dreadfully iron. :-)

  • Amy.Matt ~ Do you hang up the shirts straight from dryer? If not you may want to throw it in the dryer on de-wrinkle before hand, maybe while you are taking a shower or whatever. It really should not matter though. I use only purified water not tap. I found with tap it left mineral residue. Make sure you keep the hose extended, if you do not the water will spit out water all over your clothes. You will know when it is about to happen, because the steamer will start gurgling and the steam will stop coming out as quickly as it was. Make sure that the water tank is full enough. Always pull the garment toward you semi tightly. With buttoned shirts you want to steam from the inside or steam on the outside holding the steamer handle angled at the clothing so it just glides over the buttons.

I am not sure which kind of steamer you have, but I heart mine... http://tinyurl.com/6996n5

I really wanted the Tobi, but could not see paying that much. This instructional video should help you... GL

  • Mrs.byac- thank you for the suggestions!  i think my problem is that i don't dry a lot of my stuff in the dryer, but hang to dry..which makes them pretty wrinkled... i do throw them in the dryer to de-wrinkle them before ironing, but they're still pretty wrinkled.  I was using tap water, so maybe i'll try the purified.  i'd love to get away from ironing.. i just got back upstairs from about 2 hours of it today! AH!  I have a Conair (i think), but it's a commercial grade one that i spent a fortune on! LOL.  I got a nice one because i wanted to use it all the time.  Now it just collects dust!  Maybe i'll give it another shot!  i'm going to go watch that video, now.

Thank you!! Also, thank you for the compliment on DS.  he's my little man!

  • Rarely do I iron!  I mostly just take stuff out of the dryer and hang it up and it turns out alright.  There are some thing that I own that I HAVE TO iron and I usually avoid wearing those items on a regular basis because I hate to iron.
