Recommend your allergist

Does someone here have a good allergist somewhere in winter park, waterford lakes, or somewhere in between? Has anyone had an allergy test beyond the back prick test? I think I'd rather avoid that if I can...

Re: Recommend your allergist

  • Well I can tell you one allergist I DO NOT recommend, and if you hear his name, run the other way..... STEPHEN ROSENBERG.  Just horrible.

I have had the skin prick testing and blood testing done multiple times for allergy diagnosis.  If you have any specific questions, please let me know!

I have a feeling the prick test will be done before blood testing though....insurance companies like it done that way to get it paid for, and so do the doctors.

  • Thanks for the warning!

And I HATE the prick test. It's like medieval torture!

  • The prick test is very conclusive though, so its so widely used.

But if you specifically ask for the blood (rast?) testing maybe they will honor your wishes and just do it that way.  That is also very very accurate.  They use that for food allergies if that is what you are getting it done for.  But if it is something like outdoor allergies or pets, dust mites, they will skin test you I am afraid.

Just dont ever let them skin prick test you if you already have hives on your body.  Trust me on that.

  • Go see Dr. Michael Anderson. (office is on Underwood)

He is always listed as one of the top allergist in the area. Great office and super nice staff.

I used to have super bad allergies and had to have two shots in each arm two times a week. (Yep, that is eight shots a week!) So I know all about allergist and allergies! As far as the allergy test -- I got welts on some pin pricks. Put I actually didn't think it was as bad as I thought it was going to be. Just have Gold Bond ant itch cream on hand as soon as you leave the office. It makes the world of difference.

  • First of all, I second Whateley's comment about Rosenberg.  Stay away.

Secondly, DH and I both go to Orlando ENT and absolutely love them. They are consistently recommended on this board, so many times I'm suprised you had to ask thisWink We go to Dr. Rabaja, but they all seem to be liked on here. They have offices on Lake Underhill and in Oviedo on Red Bug Lake Rd.

Dr Rabaja used blood testing to diagnose DH's allergies; he never suggested the prick tests. I didn't know there was an issue with blood tests until this post; I guess Orlando ENT just prefers the blood tests. Dr Rabaja is really good about helping his patients avoid unnecessary discomfort. I recommend him very highly:)
