cooper river bridge run?

how crazy is it?  i know it's a huge race, but how's transportation to/from the start/finish with the shuttles, etc?  i know DH won't want to do it due to the number of people, but i'm considering it...

Re: cooper river bridge run?

  • My dad and I ran it last year for the first time and we loved it!  We took the ferry boat instead of one of the shuttles and we only waited in line for about 5 minutes.  It really was unlike any other race I'd run because it was huge but it was fun to be a part of it!
  • This will be our 3rd year and we love it...of course I won't be running it this year.  I think it's extremely organized considering 40,000 are running and downtown Charleston is so small.  They have been doing it for so long it runs really smooth.

I don't know where you plan on staying, but we have always stayed downtown by the market and taken the bus shuttles to Mt. Pleasant.  The line does seem pretty long, but it goes pretty quick.  I also suggest signing up for the fastest seeding you think you'll place in.  I notice lots of walkers in the 45 min-1 hour group.

This is probably my favorite race...the people, scenery, and a little vacay every year to Charleston!

  • this will be my 4th year. it's so much fun, but we go not only for the run but also the enjoyment of Charleston too. if you're thinking about it then try to find a hotel asap. we drive over with a group piled into an SUV and park over there. we usually never have trouble finding a place to park.
  • It's such a fun race!  I normally stay in Mt. Pleasant the night before then in the historic district after.  For me, it's so much easier to just walk to the starting line.  Never had a problem getting a shuttle back.
