Venue recommendations for a baby shower in Studio City/Sherman Oaks?
Hi Ladies,
I am trying to help my sisters with a baby shower location since our place is too small. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not looking for a restaurant, but maybe more of a clubhouse type of place. Thanks for your help!
Re: Venue recommendations for a baby shower in Studio City/Sherman Oaks?
Have you checked the Sportman's Lodge on Ventura/Coldwater? They have a bunch of different sized rooms (though may be too formal).
If you do opt for a restaurant, I'd recommend the private room on the top floor of Spark Woodfire Grill - it's part bar, part wine cellar and a great setting.
Do any of the girls attending live in a condo that has a clubhouse for members? My friend has thrown several parties and showers at her mother's clubhouse for a small rental fee (>$100).
For the love of all that is holy, please do not do it at the Sportsmen's Lodge. All I can say is that you get what you pay for and it is cheap.
We had a local reception there after our wedding--the attached banquet rooms were closed at the time (though they are now open) so all we had were the meeting rooms overlooking the pool. They smelled terrible! On top of that, though we were promised the room at 9 a.m. for our 11 a.m. event, they were not ready for us at all. The room was a mess (empty bottles, wine-soaked tableclothes, dirty silverware) from a wedding there the night before.
Finally, at 10 they got some people up there to help us so we could start setting up my event, but it wasn't enough. My mom had to vacuum the room herself. The bartender set up a full bar even though we had explicitly asked for just beer and wine, and my asking for her to put it away was not enough. I had to get another guy to help me. Of course the woman who does their event planning doesn't work on the weekends.
Other things: they spelled our name wrong on the marquee and it took my dad like five tries to get them to change it. At the end of the event some of the guys who worked there came in and started doing tequila shots at the bar while my guests will still there. Klassy. We had about half of our guests no-show (so I paid for their meals for nothing) and when I asked to take some of the salad home they said no. I guess that's their policy, but seriously I paid double price for these meals, can I not have some freaking salad??
I emailed the events lady, Rosie, later and she was really nice and apologetic. She offered us a free night's stay there some time. When I emailed her back to take her up on the offer, she never replied to us again so we never got our free night's stay. Run for the hills from this place!!!
And, while in the hills, I hear Castaway's is nice, though I think it's in Burbank.

@Larknow, I'm sorry to hear you went through all that! That really sucks! I would go there and stalk that lady Rosie for your free stay!!! I would do it for you since I live down the street But I hear they are in the process of renovating it. Who knows.
I've had dinner there and its not that great. But thank you for the suggestion!!

Eeek - sorry to hear that! We toured the Lodge when wedding planning, but ended up going somewhere else. Good to know.

Well hello neighbors - I'm at Riverside & Vineland.
We should have a Valley girl GTG some day!

I'm up for nails, or meeting up for coffee/brunch along Ventura Blvd.
Alas, I'm not very good at sewing or being crafty, but I have been thinking about taking the cake decorating class at Michael's!

Almost forgot to give you some recs for Baby Shower places...
Cafe Bisou, Cafe Cordiale, Rive Gauche, Il Tiramisu, Marmalade
Don't go to Sportsmens Lodge!
Thanks for the recommendations!
btw- i got a star for this post what does that mean anyway? as you can see I don't post very often.
off to joannes to sign up for my sewing class:0)
You get a star for number of looks (I'm not sure how many--a lot) or number of responses (16+). Have fun at your sewing class! Is it the JoAnn's on Riverside? I love that place.

Oh ok. Thanks for the lesson on posting yes, the one on Riverside. My first class is today and I am planning to take 4 classes in the next 2 weeks because the lady will be leaving for a 3 week vacation. I wish they would turn it into a superstore, like the one in Porter Ranch. This location is never stocked with anything I need. It gets frustruating!
Yes - let's plan it!
Sweet Harts the new cupcake store on Ventura, right? Owned by Melissa Joan Hart, I think.
Yeah, it's small. If I have time I go to Michael's for craft stuff. But sometimes they just have exactly the right thing you are looking for. And I think their holiday section is usually pretty good. I got a Valentine's Day door decoration from them that is super cute!

I saw their Valentine's day stuff and they are cute! I still have my Christmas wreath up, lol. Its very simple with a little white bird and I am trying to come up with ideas to integrate the valentine's theme. :O)
