Hotels near City center - Need local opinions
Good morning IN Nesties
Some friends and I will be traveling to Indianapolis, and I wanted to try and get some information about the area. I have noticed that hotels seem fairly cheap in the "South Indianpolis" area, but I wondered if this was a safe area of the city? Also, what about the hotels near the airport?
TIA!
Re: Hotels near City center - Need local opinions
Most of Indy is fairly safe- particularly where you're going to have hotels. On the southside, you're probably looking at hotels near Greenwood off or near 65, right? That would be fine. It's a pretty quick zip into downtown from there and the traffic in Indy isn't too terrible, though it can get alittle messy around rush hour. Hotels near the airport are fine, too... we recently moved our entryway into the airport by a few miles, though, so a lot of the airport hotels aren't actually THAT close to the airport. I'm not sure how that has changed the "vibe" near these hotels- if they are more empty, then they might be a little more sketch... but I doubt that's the case. I've heard of a few folks that have had problems with cars getting broken into at the airport hotels, but I don't think the area is necessarily unsafe- just comes with the territory of thieves knowing that people park their cars there for long periods of time, ya know?
I might recommend that you do priceline, though, and try to get a hotel in downtown "proper." I've had friends use priceline for Indy and they got a downtown room (it was the Hilton, I think) for $50. Depending on when you're coming into town, you can get a really good deal that way. Of course, there is the challenge of parking downtown since you are driving in... but parking is also pretty reasonable downtown and you can find some places for $10 a night or so.
Good luck and have fun!
Most of Indy is pretty safe. I would just stay downtown. More to do and see, and you can just park and walk to whatever you're going to do.
Have a great time!
