Hair care?

I've been using Pureology for the past several years and have (a) been impressed with its ability to keep my color from fading (no sulfates) and (b) been happy to buy from a cruelty-free company who at least tries to be green.  Lately, however, I've been trying to rid myself of paraben products so I'm a little concerned about the propyl and methly paraben content.  Can anyone point me to a sulfate-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free shampoo and conditioner that works well, or is pureology my best option?

  • I second the Gudonya line.

  • I like Aubrey Organics - not sure how it does on colored hair though.

  • I use the Burt's Bee's moisture line. I'm a little torn as its owned by Clorox, but on the other hand the Burt's Bee's segment still does a lot of good. And its the only thing so far that has worked on my hair!

I also use the Gudonya Too conditioner as a deep conditioner. I'm going to try the shampoo next order.

I read a review of the Burt's Bees line, and they didn't look upon it too favorably.  Do you really like it?  The reviewer liked the Avalon line more (I like their handsoaps), but a reader pointed out that that it contains cyclopentasiloxane (the same stuff Pantene used to use), so I didn't want to try it.

In re: Gudonya, how easy is it to use?  I think I read in one of the threads that the conditioner was really heavy (I have oily hair, so that's probably a no-go), but is the shampoo okay? Anyone with color-treated hair use it?  Also, I know I'm ridiculous, but the packaging looks like it would drive me insane.

  • Maybe that was an old review, or maybe its in one shampoo and not another? Its not in the More Moisture line at least (the cyclopentasiloxane). My last shampoo trial was so awful, I'm scared to try another! If the Gudonya doesn't work out I will try avalon.

  • I've been pleased with avalon organics tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner.  The company uses vegetarian ingredients (most products are vegan) and is cruelty free.  I have super picky hair (frizz) and oily scalp.  I shampoo my scalp every other day and all my hair once a week (or more if i swam, etc.) and condition the ends thoroughly, but only very lightly on my scalp (if at all).

  • I've been very pleased so far with the Yes to Cucumber! (and sister products yes to carrots and yes to tomato) products I've been using.  It's definitely cruelty free, definitely paraben free, but unfortunately it's not sulfate free.  The list of ingredients is listed on their website if you want ot explore it further.  www.yestocarrots.com
