MacDuff character from Star Trek based on MacDuff from MacBeth? It's blatantly clear that most SciFi writers are well versed in classics and borrow from them constantly. It's not a stretch to come to this conclusion and not question it.
He's one of those people who would see West Side Story and say, "OMG, THEY RIPPED OFF ROMEO AND JULIET!"
