Favorite Cheap/Free things to do around KC

I just thought it would be a fun idea to get a list going of our favorite cheap/free date ideas in KC. So what are your favorites?

We love going to the Nelson (though for some reason, have never made it to Kemper) and the City Market in the spring-fall.

  • We like to take out dog out and walk or hike. Our favorite parks are English Landing in Parkville (love being by the river) and Watkins Mill State Park in Kearney.

  • During the summer, we like to go to Crown Center for the free Friday night movies.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a cooler with snacks and drinks!
We also like to take our dogs to the dog parks.  So far, we've really liked Shawnee Mission Park, it's really nice and well maintained for a dog park.

It gets tricky in the winter.  We've been taking advantage of the deal Dickinson theatres has on Tuesday nights.  It's $5 per ticket during the week, but on Tuesdays you can bring in a big popcorn bowl and they fill it up for free!  We all know how much they can charge for a bag of popcorn these days, so we were all for FREE popcorn!
  • My friends and I love to go to First Fridays in the Cross Roads district.  Local artists set up galleries in the local businesses. Some serve beer and wine as you walk through.  There's also outdoor entertainment when the weather is good.  Lots of good places to eat too.

And as the name of the event states, it's the first friday of the month!
