I need to volunteer somewhere

Hi, ladies. I'm looking for a volunteer opportunity for a project I'm doing with work. I can volunteer pretty much anywhere doing anything. I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions. I would want something that can be a one time commitment (about 3 hours or so) to see if I like it. If I like it, I will volunteer on a more regular basis. Let me know if you ladies have any ideas.

Re: I need to volunteer somewhere

  • You could try kcphilnet.com there is a volunteersource clicky.  It is a good website for nonprofits in the KC area.  HTH
  • My husband and I volunteer at the Humane Society here in Topeka. I'm sure you could find something similar in KC. It's fabulous because at the shelters all you have to do is "socialize" the animals, which just means playing with dogs and cats! The workers do all of the yucky stuff-cleaning, bathing, etc, but they come short on time to just play and get to know the animals, so they ask for volunteers to do that. It is SO MUCH fun. I would highly recommend it.

  • I work for the March of Dimes in Leawood and we always need help!  We have several big events coming up - specifically a gala and a motorcycle event.  Email me if you are interested!  afisher at marchofdimes dot com
  • Thank you for all of your replies. Unfortunately I can't do the humane society because I work on the weekends, and that's when they have their orientation.

    *Aimee*Sue* I sent you an e-mail. I'm definately interested.

  • I wont get to check it until Monday, but I will get back to you then.  I think its a lot of fun, and I hope you do as well!
  • When you mentioned a one-time thing, I immediately thought of the KC Irish Fest that is coming at the end of this month.  It is sooo much fun and  volunteers are always needed, and so appreciated!  Plus, you get a free t-shirt :)  You don't have to be Irish to volunteer, either!
