Two Dr. B.'s Questions (Not the usual ones, promise!)

1.  It is working fine (diluted) in my non-foaming soap dispenser (well, except for problem #2).  If I get a foaming dispenser, will it create a lather like traditional foaming soap does?  The only one I like aesthetically got terrible reviews, so I haven't been in a hurry to buy one.

2.  This one's harder to explain.  After a few seconds of hand-washing, the soap seems to lose all lubrication and it becomes more difficult to rub my hands together.  I definitely can't wash for the full "Happy Birthday."  Would adding glycerin to the mix help?  Does the foaming dispenser help?  Or any other ideas?

  • Sorry, I have no idea! You wash your hands for a full 'Happy Birthday'? lol ... I am so unsanitary. Rather than subscribing to the 'cleanliness is next to godliness' mindset, I'm all about challenging the immune system. Stick out tongue

  • 2. i would def. add some glycerin. it makes it usable as a shower gel, so i am sure it would work for hand washing. and you are not the only one that does the happy birthday.

Not all the stuff is germs -- there are all sorts of other toxins that good scrubbing gets rid of (lead, anyone?).
Also, careful handwashing drastically reduces the population-wide need for antibiotics (the fewer germs individuals spread, the fewer cases of illness that need to be treated).  Even if you don't care about careful handwashing for your own sake, it's the responsible, respectful thing to do.  Imagine if everyone washed their hands with non-antibacterial soap and coughed into their sleeves and we could go back to a time when there were no antibiotic-resistant bacteria : )

  • 1. We have three of these from Amazon and haven't ever had a problem; the lather is nice and thick:

    2. I don't Happy B-day my hands, I just rinse, soap, rub, rinse. The end.

Well I meant that slightly tongue-in-cheek! I do wash my hands, but not for a full happy birthday (and this is the first I've ever heard of that). But I am curious now, where would I get lead on my hands? Is this a common problem? I'm sincerely curious! I'm of the possibly mistaken belief that I do not normally come into contact with lead (and no, I don't use pencils, but I thought they were graphite anyhow).

As for the spreading of germs, first of all I'm healthy (when I'm sick or feel sick-ish, I am more aware and more careful, I am all about not spreading disease!), and second, I come into contact with the same 2-3 people a day. Seriously. The only place I will be today is work, the only place I will see anyone is work, and I work with 2-3 people (depending on who comes in). And that's only 4 days a week. I know they don't want my germs, my point is I'm not exactly in contact with a lot of people to pick up or spread germs.

  • I think the happy-birthday song is supposed to help approximate 20-30 seconds of washing time.  I read this on a sign in a hospital bathroom.  I do it, but admit that I don't always sing it at the correct tempo in my head.

CDMay was the one to open my eyes up to how much lead is used in plastics (to make them stronger).  So yeah, always wash your hands before eating.

    I thought this same thing.

Oh, 20-30 seconds, okay! I was really thinking out the song as being much longer.

Yikes...lead. Great. Ok, I will be washing more often now.

  • Thanks, Blue, I'll pick up some glycerin and see if it helps.

GRKaters, thanks for the rec.  I'd seen those, but they aren't as cute as my non-foaming Ikea dispenser, so I've been resisting buying one.  Big Smile

Everyone else, glad I could spark a hand-washing debate!  LOL
