SIL and I have decided on the perfect gift for my parents for Xmas (so what if we are 5 months out). The family will all be in (mid) Missouri for Thanksgiving. We are thinking of having a professional photo done of the 6 of us (DH, me, Bro, SIL, parents). I'm bummed to find out that Olan Mills is closed! I had pictures taken there as a kid. I might have to comb the STL or KCMO boards for some photographer recs.
SIL and I are undecided to tell the parents about it... surprise them... it's a holiday gift... but I do want them to pack some nice clothes for the pictures. Not sure if we should all coordinate or not.
Family photos as a high schooler were never this rough. And all the other family photos we have are from weddings... so we're all wearing tuxes or polyester dresses, ya know.
I'm just giddy that we thought of this beforehand enough to plan it!
Re: Family Portraits
I would tell them. They'll still be thrilled. If you have portraits taken at Thanksgiving, they'll want them anyway.
If you want something indoor and inexpensive, go to JC Penney in Columbia. We needed e-pics and were happy with that.
You could also call the J-School at MU. There are very talented students who are looking to expand their portfolios at a lower rate than a professional.
I thought your family lived in JCity, not out in the boonies. I read your message and was like, 'uhhh... CoMO is a 30 minute drive to JCity...'
My family lives a little over an hour west of Jefferson City.
