Disposing expired medications?
I'm cleaning out the medicine cabinet. I've got some old chloroseptic, medicated shampoo for psoriasis, & medicated throat rinse (from tonsillectomy) - all expired. Plus I have some old pill-formed medications I want to get rid of as well.
I can't imagine that they're good to dump down the drain but is placing them in the trash as is just as bad? How do I get rid of these items?
Re: Disposing expired medications?
Well I believe the chloroseptic, shampoo and throat rinse are okay to go down the drain unless there's a better option. The latter were meant to go down the drain. Then you can rinse and recycle the containers.
I put expired pills all in one bottle and return to the pharmacy when I can.
The recommendation I've read for disposing pills is to mix them into coffee grounds or kitty litter and put them in the trash.
Do pharmacies really take back old pills?
Yep! Not to reuse, but to dispose of properly.
