Coming to Boston..Qs

DH and I are looking to come from NJ the weekend of Valentines for a 3 night stay.  We've never been.  We are mostly just looking to get away but if there are 2 things I would love to do is...

1) Visit the historic sites

2) Sam Adams brewery

Do you know what area would be best to stay in?  Any good restaurant recs?  Any price range works.  Thank you so much!

Re: Coming to Boston..Qs

  • I highly recommend staying in the Back Bay area (the only hotel I have experience with is the Sheraton Back Bay which is nice and in a central location). From there, you won't be too far from the sightseeing areas (It's within walking distance from Fenway and the Public Garden and Newbury St, if you want to do some shopping..) and you can take the train to the brewery.

I'm sure the other girls will be in with tons of other recs soon, and I hope you enjoy your visit!

  • Hi Jax!

I would recommend you not staying near Sam Adams as the area is iffy, HOWEVER, the brewery tour is so much fun! A friend of mine used to work there and the free stuff we got was amazing!

I would recommend staying in either Faneuil Hall or Copley. Faneuil Hall is the start of a lot of historic stuff, Copley is where the shopping and restaurants are. Good news is Boston is small and no matter where you stay, you're close to everything and only a cab ride away!

  • Thanks girls.  I appreciate your feedback!  I have always wanted to visit Boston:)

  • You should stay at my hotel: the InterContinental! Normal rates can be high but I'm sure you could get a great rate on Priceline. Hotwire has good rates too but you never know what hotel you're getting until the very end. We're located within walking distance of the Boston Common (Freedom Trail), Quincy Market and the historic (and restaurant-centric) North End.

If this hotel doesn't work, there's a Hilton right down the street that just updated their rooms and they have a GREAT concierge. :-)

  • Anywhere in the Back Bay or by the Commons would be great.

    For restaurant recs...

    $$$
    No. 9 Park
    Mistral
    O Ya Sushi
    Blue Ginger
    Catch

    $$
    East Ocean City (Chinatown)

    $
    Hong Kong Eatery (Chinatown)

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I agree with staying in the Back Bay. I have also stayed at the Sheraton and loved it.

Definitely do the Brewery tour, it's a lot of fun! And for historical stuff set aside a day to walk the Freedom Trail. You don't need a day to walk it, but if you give yourself the day you can stop as much as you want long it.
