Anyone looking into Clear for internet service?

Now that you're in here, this is a 'lil plug for my DH. Embarrassed

He started working for Clear when they launched the Austin market last month.  They don't have as much coverage in the rural areas as they do in the city, but the coverage they have in the city is fast.  Anyway, I can't quote you prices or anything like that, but I often see posts on here of people looking for internet options besides Time Warner, and this is a good one IMO.  If you're interested, page me or drop me an email and I can get you in touch with the hubs.  I'll buy your drink at the next GTG...if I ever make it to one again!  srgarlan AT yahoo DOT com

  • I wish! One of my residents is actually working for them and he is checking for me to see if there is coverage out in the boondocks where I live. I can guarantee the answer is going to be no, but I sampled it with him briefly and it does seem to work well.

Yeah, it's limited outside the city right now, but it will get there!  If they continue to be a good company as they grow bigger, I really think they can change the cost and speed of internet for the average person or small business owner who can't afford a T-1 line in their home/office.

  • We're not, but I did want to say that I really like their commercials. Bubbles........
    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • I know the market is so small that its hard for it to be worth it for ISPs to make access available in areas like mine (I bet 75% of my neighbors, who are all at least acres, if not a mile or more away don't even have internet or care), but I bet those of us who do would snatch it right up, because satellite internet bites the big one!

Do you have Sprint 3G coverage out there?  Because Clear makes a 3G/4G card that will work on either network (I assume it seeks out the fastest available).  So if you are in an area that only has Sprint cell phone coverage, it will work off that.  If you move into an area with Wimax coverage, it will work off that (a helluvalot faster).  I know the 3G/4G card is more expensive though.  Good luck out there!  My sis and BIL have satellite internet at their home in Northern Minnesota and yeah, it's super flakey and pricey.

  • They are 600 yards from service in my area.  Tell your DH to get them to expand a little bit further.  DH is seriously interested in switching us, which I would love because the commercial grade stuff we have to have right now is pricey!  Plus I like the option of then getting the cards for travel so I could always have my Internet.

Believe me, he's alllll for them expanding.  More service area = more commission of course. ;)  I love having the card for travel.  If you want to, email me your address and maybe he can find out if/when they are going to grow in that direction.

  • I'm so glad you posted this because I was just talking to MH last night about how I want to look into switching to them -  so you can tell him that we are interested!

Awesome, K!  Mind if I pass your email on to him?  He will totally remember you guys from the Milwood GTG.

BTW, I think we need to do another Milwood GTG again one of these days.  That was fun!
