The light snow is along a cold front that will deliver even colder temperatures than what the Charlotte area experienced earlier this week. Afternoon high temperatures Friday and Saturday might not climb above freezing over much of the region, and morning lows are expected to be in the low to mid teens in many areas.
The best guess is that snow will start falling in the Charlotte area about 9 or 10 p.m., then continue until 3 or 4 a.m. Friday. Temperatures will be at or slightly below freezing when the snow falls, so icy patches on roads could be a probem Friday morning.
Sunshine is expected to return Friday, but it will be cold and windy. Wind chill values are expected to be below zero in the mountains and in single digits to the low teens in the Charlotte area. The actual air temperature will climb to no more than 34 degrees Friday and Saturday.
A break in the cold snap is expected next week. Forecasters say high temperatures will reach the 40s Monday and Tuesday and the low 50s by Wednesday.

Re: Butter Cookie, are you keeping an eye on the weather?
We have this RIGHT now. But of course we're used to it. Or you'd think so. *eyes reports of accidents*
Crap, I just checked our forecast and they're predicting that the rain/snow will still be occurring in the morning. There shouldn't be any accumulation, but people will be engaging in the driving version of running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Maybe I'll work from home until the drivers regain their sanity.
It's the next best thing to a skinsuit.
