every time i plan a trip, i have to cancel it for one reason or another. right now, i can't justify the cost of the most recent trip i am planning, so i am thinking of options in case we decide to cancel (which is most likely going to happen).
so i am on the east coast, and we're not flying. we may or may not take the dog depending on if we can get dog care, so we'll be driving wherever we decide to go.
i mentioned Niagara Falls to DH because we've never been.
most stuff within driving distace is very lame, and/or we've probably already done it - pocono mountains, vermont skiing, hershey PA (probably not open in april), virginia beach, atlantic city. maybe we should just do a spa vacation in Cape May or Mystic CT.
there is always the jersey shore i guess, even though it's not going to be hot enough to rock out MTV style.
Re: where would you go?

Story of my life. I don't have any advice for you, as I've never been over there...I just wanted to make a sadface with you.
what about Montreal?
it's very European feeling. you would hardly know you were in canada.
Boston is fun. Or go to DC.
I really want to go to Hershey. I've been once but it was for a family event so there was no fun at the park or anything.
Niagara Falls is fun - though I went once in March during spring break, since we could legally drink on the Canada side, and it was cold/snowed while we were there. So later in the spring is probably better to go.
Harper's Ferry in WV is nice for a relaxing trip, as is Deep Creek out in Western Maryland. I also like the Shenandoah Valley and Luray Caverns in Virginia. At each of those places you can find a reasonable cabin to rent for a few days.
Hershey is also sometimes open in April - they officially start the summer season in May, but they have been known to open up a few weeks earlier depending on the weather.
DH would love to do a cabin adventure, so i'll check that out.
we're about 4-5 hours from DC if there's traffic. i have to look into it. the good thing about a place like DC is that we could just take Amtrak and leave the car behind if we don't take the dog. i'm not sold, though. i'd rather go back to the poconos.
Hershey Park doesn't open until May, I believe.
I'd say Philly, but I'm not sure when we're moving (March/April.)
How long? I want to go to Boston. DC is an awesome city. Niagar Falls is fun, but I wouldn't stay more than a couple of days. Toronto isn't far from Niagar so you could do a couple of days there then slip up to Toronto which is a blast.
We went to Emerald Isle last year and it was great. 7 days on a quiet, relaxing beach.
You need to come to NYC for an adventure before you leave!
My brother had a nice time in Wilmington.
We'll have to plan a NYC g2g in early Feb, maybe?
Bar Harbor is pretty. Or I really like Nova Scotia if you're thinking Canada.
But my #1 vote is DC. I'm admittedly biased, though.
