I learned so much from this book that I had never knew before.  I understand schools not wanting to teach natural family planning as it would result in spiking teen pregnancy rates, but how are these things not even introduced?

 Last week my mom mentioned how my youngest brother was nearly aborted because she was supposed to have a D&C for polyps in her uterus.  I asked her for the full story and she said that it all started when she felt a polyp on her cervix while checking it one morning.

I wanted to be all " WTF Mom!  You knew all this stuff and never told me??"  But I didn't.  She never exactly told me where babies came from at all.  Maybe she thought it would blow my mind before the age of 30.

My mom never told me anything, either. Hell, she wouldn't let me use tampons until I was 18 because she was afraid a Kotex would steal my virginity. (<-- True story.)

I knew some of it from just general health knowledge (like the hormones and such). I had NO idea about the things like cervix positioning, basal body temp, or cervical mucus. I don't know why women don't talk about this stuff. It's not gross, it's life. Stop being so damn shameful about your bodily functions.

My mom was the same way.  I remember buying my first box of tampons in college.  You would think I was hiring a gigilo with the shame I felt.  But dang it, I was tired of the mess.

At least your mom had an opinion. I got my period and I had to find the pads. I think the only thing my mom acknowledged was that I ruined a pair of shorts.

I was shocked when I found out my mom charted, and also had endometriosis before my youngest sister was born (thanks for the heads up on that one!).
