So Sad

My entire yard died!  Well not all of it.  We are about to put our house on the market and we have already moved out.  A month ago it actually snowed and all of my plants and shrubs died.  I live in Houston and most winters are not this hard.  The yard looks so sad.

  • Oh, that's not good. I lived in Texas for a little while before moving back to Iowa.  Do what we do here in the fall - go through your flower beds and trim back all the dead flowers and smaller plants that will grow back in the Spring.  That way you have a cleaned up garden at least.  The bushes, you obviously can't do much with except wait for them to sprout their buds again.

But for you, that can't be too long.

Just be glad you don't have 6-8 inches of snow, 5 degree temps,  and a blizzard like conditions like we do today!  We have to wait until April/May before we see signs of life!

  • I am over here in Shreveport, LA and I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN... It is sooo freakin cold over here... this is going to be crazy week... over half of my yard is dead and the remainder of it is being taken over by MOLES, which I wish they would just freeze to death... And I got out there last night when I got home and started covering all my shrubs and outside plants with trash bags.... YES, I am from LOUSIANA...
  • You might be in luck with the moles Amanda.  They might freeze, but only if this cold lasts a long time.  If they don't go away...best thing to do is put a hose in the holes and water the suckers out.

And then treat the grubs. They eat grubs and that is more than likely your bigger problem. Get rid of the grubs...get rid of the moles.
