Hello! I'm a Florida Nestie/Bumpie... my DH and I just found out we're moving to the Indianapolis area and we are so excited! Unfortunately, we are somewhat limited in our knowledge of the area... on advice, we're planning to start our mhome searh in Zionsville and Carmel. Just wondering if anyone has any general advice on neighborhoods, schools, etc. I have a 4 year old daughter who will be attending preschool/VPK this August, and I'm looking for doctors, etc. Also, the church we'll be attending is in Carmel. Any thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated!
TIA, and stay warm through the snow storm!

Re: Moving to IN! Advice?
Congrats on your upcoming move to Indiana. It's a great place! I lived there for 34 years before moving to Louisiana this past spring. I had a wonderful OBGYN in Zionsville named Victoria Ball and would highly recommend her. She also has two others in her practice, and all 3 are fantastic. I have a close friend who lives in Zionsville in the village park subdivision. They really like it. We lived in Noblesville and our daughter went to Pebblebrook Play School, which was also wonderful, but it would be a little far for you if you lived in Zionsville.
Good luck with your move!
We live in Fishers, which is near Carmel and Zionsville, but a tad bit further south, like 5 miles..... It's really nice, and a bit more affordable than Carmel and Zionsville. There are lots of nice little shops in Fishers, as well as things like Target, and several restaurants and things to do.... but as far as moving to indy goes, you did a great job deciding to live on the north east side... that's definitely the best and safest part....
we go to Northview Christian Church, and just started going there recently. We really like it a lot.
Thank you both so much!

I live in the Castleton neighborhood of Indianapolis. It's still on the north side, but it's a drive from Zionsville. Both DH and I work in Carmel, and it only takes me 12 minutes to get to work. I love it here because there is a lot of shopping and restaurants. A lot of people criticize my neighborhood though because there is a lot of traffic here. I say you just have to know which streets to drive on at which times.
I can recommend doctors, but I know nothing about schools and churches. I see Dr. Sprunger with Northside Family Care www.northsidefamilycare.com as our general practitioner and I see Dr. Garrett for my OB/GYN whose office phone is 317-872-3459.
It took me awhile to find good doctors, so I know it's a search. To be honest though, I found the groups they work for from nesties, so you came to the right place!
Sorry this reply is so late, but I hope it helps.
We live in Carmel, in the Old Town area. We love it! It is an older established neighborhood with large yards and mature trees, something you don't really find in many of the new subdivisions. But I must say, if you are looking for a bright new and shiny with a ton of amenities, this is not the neighborhood for you. Most of the homes in our area were built in the 60's, but the benefit to that is you are not looking right into your neighbors bedroom every time you look out the window. We are a 5 minute walk to the library, and elementary school. Not to mention we are less than a 10 minute walk to the Arts & Design District and the Monon Trail. The commute to Indianapolis is relatively easy with the upgrading of Keystone Ave. There is an ease to living in our area, as there are grocery stores and hardware stores and other shopping (Clay Terrace) within a 5 minute drive. Hope this helps
I'm so glad I checked back here! We are focusing our search on the north area, and so far it looks as though we're leaning to Carmel. (pronounced kArm-uhl, not Car-mEL?) We'll check into Castleton too - I hadn't heard of it. Also going to look into those doctors - it's so hard to find good ones so rec's are very important! Thanks again ladies! =-)
