Update on my DH

Well, they are going to keep him for at least one more night.  And he is now in contact isolation pending cultures.  Yea.  This is not fun at all.  My poor dogs look at me like wtf are you going again and where the hell is Dad?

Well, yes and no.  He has Crohn's disease which has been really really bad for about 4 months. He's lost tons of weight and we were about to start a new (and scary, I think) drug called Humera, but he's been in such terrible pain since last Sat that I made him go to the hospital.  He'd been vomiting and I was freaked that he could have some type of GI obstruction.  His normal gastroenterologist has been on vacation for 3 weeks and no one else at the practice would see him, so we got stuck going to the ER.

They did a CT and he just has really severe inflammation of his colon.  He's on IV fluids, antibiotics, steroids, and pain meds.  All of which he could take orally, so the fact that he is hospitalized is frustrating me.  Yesterday they decided that they think he might have a Clostridial infection, but that is still pending.  And that is why he is now in isolation.  But as a veterinarian, I diagnose Clostridial infections every.single.day so I fully understand the risk of infection and feel like gowning and gloving up to go into my husband' hospital room is complete overkill.

The physicians are just really pissing me off in general.  My DH is a passive person and isn't really standing up for himself.  Some a$$hole gastroenterologist filling in for his normal doctor laid into him yesterday for stopping an immunosuppressive drug he was prescribed, which he had good reason to stop.  But maybe it's a good thing I wasn't there, because I would have flipped!  And probably gotten kicked out of the hospital :-)

  • This is horrible. I hope your husband feels better very soon. I am so sorry that you have all this going on right now.

I hope he feels better soon and that you are taking care of yourself as well!?
