We are having our roaster made by a company in Nevada and have to go out there for training. So, I booked our flight into Vegas for 2 1/2 weeks from now. The business is about 5 hours away from Vegas, but it was cheaper to fly in there and drive than fly into Reno. Since we're flying into Vegas, we're spending an extra day out there to have fun! I am soooo excited!!
DH is excited for the training but a little worried about the trip. He's packing his suitcase with food for the trip since he's so weird about eating at places he's not familiar with. He's even weird about buying the same food from a grocery store he's never been too....weirdo! He's been to Vegas a few times with his family, but this is his 1st time since his allergy scare, so hopefully he's ok.
Re: Our 1st business trip
How exciting! Your first business trip!!! Totally awesome!
Your poor Dh! What kind of an allergy scare dis he have?
He ate a legume to peanuts and had to be rushed to the ER. I was living out of state at the time for work, so I wasn't even there with him. He had to go to a friend's apt right next to ours and have him drive him to the hospital. He pumped himself full of benadryl and had to be observed overnight. I think he had to have an IV as well.
A few months after that he came in contact with some shelfish and got violently ill.
After that he had a severe nervous breakdown and literally stopped eating. He lost over 40 pounds and looked like death. For over 4 months he was anorexic out of fear of food. He wouldn't even eat food he had eaten all of his life bc it has warnings of may contain peanuts or processed on equipment that processes peanuts. He finally started eating some food like pasta and cereal that had no warnings on the labels. At our wedding, he finally was up to 150 and almost looked healthy. Our entire honeymoon he didn't eat anything but prepackaged fruit loops (until the last day and he finally tried the filet mignon) bc he had never eaten there before and was scared.
In Feb last year, he finally started to eat things he used to as long as they didn't say may contain. He also finally started trusting restaraunts again (only ones he's been to before). Now, he's much better, but still weary of trying new things, esp restaraunts. And anything he buys (even if he's bought it 1000 times) he has to read the label several times over to make sure it's safe.
Thanks. He checks them all the time. Lots of restaraunts have allergy menus in the back and he's gotten them before too. Even restaraunts we eat at all the time, he tells them he has a deadly allergy to peanuts and shellfish (shellfish isn't deadly like peanuts but he just puts it together) and has them add a note. We talk to the manager/cook (depending on the type of restaraunt) at about every restaraunt we go to bc of it.
He's much better now, but before he wouldn't even trust the menu/manager/chef that told him they had no peanuts. This is bc he's had people tell him before No, we have no peanuts. And he'd say ok, what oil do you use and they'd say peanut oil. Some people just don't link the two....
Yeah people really don't think. I learned with gluten free you had to ask if they have a dedicated fryer for fries because of cross contamination.
Same with shellfish.
Actually, Outback does have separate friers for seafood bc of the allergy. So Dh can enjoy his bloomin onion.
Wow-I can't imagine having any allergies like this!?!
I'd be scared to eat, too!
Hope he has a great time and learns a lot that will benefit your business!!!
