No heat: who to call?

So this is the second time in a few months that we have no heat in the house. The first time we waited and waited and poked the furnace and it came back on even though it was slowly. This was when it was super cold outside. But yesterday it happened again. DH was home all day in the cold and didn't do a thing. Last night we dressed DD extra warm for bed and we did too but DD still got cold. So we'll be buying a little space heater for her room today.

But where do you go to have it fixed? I think the furnace is working so it could be the thermostat. Do you call NW Natural? Or a heating place? Any recommendations?

Re: No heat: who to call?

  • I woudn't call NWN unless you're really sure the issue is on their end.  It sounds like you need an HVAC repair person.

I've heard good things about these folks and I see their trucks EVERYWHERE: http://www.jacobsheating.com/

Maybe someone else will have a better recommendation, though.  Good luck!

  • Jacob's is a good recommendation. NWN will really only be able to help if it's an issue on their end but they might also have a list of "preferred" contractors.
  • I would also recommend Roth's. And you might try looking up reviews on Yelp or Angie's List. What you need is an HVAC person.
  • Thanks for the recs so far. My boss has an account on Angie's list and showed me their top HVAC providers. Jacobs was #1 going by their overall rating (A) and the number of reviews, though I didn't read the reviews. Is it worth getting a membership to Angie's List?
  • Esther, I don't really think so. The only reason I knew about it was because my husband had a membership for his work. But I think you can find a lot of the same information in other places. I'm not surprised Jacob's was so highly regarded. I think very highly of both them and Roth's.
