TMWYTOT.

(Tell me what you think of this.)

This is a new thing that photogs are starting to do - add artistic vectors (clip art) to their photos instead of just playing with textures. I'd love to incorporate this sort of thing in my own work, but I'm curious. If you were the client, would you like this sort of thing? Or do you think it takes away from the pictures?

Re: TMWYTOT.

  • I'm not crazy about it.
  • Huh. When you described it I thought "Um, no." But once I saw them I actually like them. They'd be cute for Christmas cards or scrapbooks/albums, but not the kind of pictures I'd frame and put up, KWIM?
  • I can see how these would be cute, but only on a card/invitation/etc. I think it takes away from the photography and it is only one step away from Bob's Digital.

Mostly, I think it will age the photos really quickly.  Much like the floating heads of the 80s, these are going to look stupid in 20 years.

  • It's cute, but it looks too cute-sy.  More like TD said.  Card-worthy.

  • For the right audience I like it a lot.  I still like some traditional pics, but these are fun.  They make me think of scrapbooking without ME having to do the work.  I'd buy it for some stuff.

  • I agree on all your points, but like 6 said, I think it would work with the right type of pictures. Puppies or kids running and playing? Sure. Family portraits w/ grandma? Uh, no.
  • In general, I'd say no.  But a couple of those are cute for cards or birth annoucements...except for vag flower baby...that photog didn't think that one through very well.

  • "...check out they're website..." "...they're blog..."

    Really?

It looks like the pics have already been scrapbooked. Which is fine, if you scrap, or want to scrap but don't have time - but not something that I, personally, would want from a photog.

I think offering it for those who are interested would be fine - it can be an option on a package or something - but I wouldn't make it necessarily a main focus of your work (which I think stands on its own as art perfectly well).

  • I don't like the idea for wedding stuff.  I like it for family though. I agree that it is much more suited to cards and such.

I also don't like that the blog author doesn't know the difference between they're and their.

  • Based on the description, I thought I would hate it.  I was surprised that I kind of liked it.  Some were cute.  Used judiciously and sparingly, I could see a place for it.
  • I like it. Photog didn't go too crazy with it.
