Frankly, with needing to replace Trav's car before babe gets here, expenses for the birth, and other random things needing our money right now we really don't have a thousand or more to pay a lawyer to do a will for us. However, we obviously want to get the will done, especially to lay out guardianship for Gwen should something happen to us.
So! Have any of you used legalzoom.com before? Any feedback on it?

Re: wills
Back in my single days I got paperwork from legalzoom. I suppose it worked for what I needed then.
This might sound cheesy, but the Suze Orman Will & Trust kit is great! I think I bought mine for about $60. I was able to do all my own legal documents and there are step by step voice instructions. I felt comfortable using this since it's the same one Suze uses for she and her partner. Oh and there is an online version for about $15 I think. My came with a case for documents and a few books. It's worth looking into, imo.
Ditto! I've also had good experiences with the Suze Orman kit.
I was in the post above as the P&CE invader. I'm a lawyer, although leaving the field. I'd obviously recommend getting an attorney, and it shouldn't cost anywhere near thousands of dollars. A couple of hundred at most. My sister and BIL used Suze Orman for their simple will and it worked okay.
My dad, on his second marriage with kids and step kids in a state with some wacky provisions for surviving spouse entitlements, tried to use it. The software was wrong. It did not properly represent state statutes when I reviewed it, and he ended up crossing out and adding language and it was a clusterfvck (which I couldn't fix, since I was an interested party under the will.)
So if you have a really simple will, DIY will probably work but I do urge you to be cautious. It's cheaper to get it done right the first time than fix it later. Also, I don't know if you're in a state that recognizes same-sex unions (sorry, didn't read your OP well), but because the standard provisions for the surviving spouse probably will not apply to you, you want to make sure you have everything spelled out properly.
My unsolicited two cents! I'd just ask around friends and coworkers for inexpensive family law or estate planning attorneys. Any should be able to do a decent will for you.
