What are your thoughts???

During the summer, I worked around the yard and cut down some trees, like saplings were left... So, in December I got my BIL to come out with his tractor in an attempt to pull them outta the ground (it is very soft) and they didnt budge actually caused some rutts in the yard...  So now I have these "little sapling tree stubs" in my yard... I need to get rid of them and since digging them up is WAY outta the question here are my thoughts... Note : I live in Lousiana so pls be patient with me...

I am thinking about taking my drill and drilling like 4 small holes in the stump and then filling the holes up with desiel and then piling a whole bunch of wood and stuff around the stumps and having a massive fire..  What are your thoughts.. My thought is that the stumps that are soaked in gasoline will burn up into the ground???  I would like to use my riding lawn mower this spring and not worry about tearing it up by hitting stumps....

THoughts? Am i crazy???

Re: What are your thoughts???

  • I understand. We have a property next to a farm field and we tore out a fenceline with a lot of saplings. We've had to replace a couple of blades in the last few years due to stumps and saplings.

Go to your local nursery and ask for a strong killer to get rid of the saplings. Cut them way back, down to the ground and treat with the weed killer and keep treating regularly. If you keep on them, they won't grow back, but you'll have to be diligent.  After a good year of that, they should be done.

  • You can drill holes in the stumps and get something called "Kleen Up" and pour it in.  It's pretty much undiluted Roundup. Once everything dies it will be easier to remove (maybe cutting it up with a chainsaw or ax).
  • I bet it would work but then you'll have a big ugly burned spot!  I would try one of the killers recommended by pp's first.  GL-
  • Yes, you are crazy but that is ok. :)

Burning a living piece of wood is nasty and hard to do. I recommend having someone cut them down, and discard them however you choose (only burning once they have dried). Then, use this to decompose the stump and underground roots.

  • Burning won't work. Fire doesn't spread underground. MMPs suggestion WILL work.
