Anyone live in the Westfield/Carmel area?

Do you like it?  How long does it take you to get places (grocery store, Library, shopping, etc)?  How are the schools?  Do you wish you lived closer to anything?

TIA!

Re: Anyone live in the Westfield/Carmel area?

  • Hi there :)  Dh and I moved to Westfield about 4 months ago from the BUSY Castleton area of Indy and not a day goes by that we aren't thrilled by our decision to move!!!

We live in a lovely neighborhood, have a new Kroger at 161st St, and all the shopping at Clay Terrace.  There is a huge strip of shopping (Walmart, Target, Marsh, Hallmark, BB&B, Best Buy, Michaels, Barnes & Noble just to name a few), a Regal movie theater with stadium seating and many great places to eat right at 146th/31, so we've never felt deprived of shopping or dining out (and that says a lot having come from Castleton). The only place I do miss is having a Trader Joes nearby, but thankfully I work near one in Indy!

For us, traffic has never been an issue, like it was in Castleton.  We're able to take a lot of non-highway roads to work like Spring Mill, Ditch and Township Line....and the round-a-bouts make the flow of traffic so much smoother than stoplights or stop signs like in Indy.

Hamilton County has a lot of public parks that are very well kept for families or anyone wanting to spend some time outside, they often host events as well like the Cool Creek Concert Series during the summer.  We don't have children *yet* but when we do they will attend Westfield Public schools because of how highly ranked they are, in fact the elementary school is just across a corn field from our neighborhood!

Just let me know if you would like to talk about it more, I'm happy to share any & all with you :)

  • We used to live in Carmel/Westfield, on 151st and Carey and we loved it. It was minutes away from shopping (Clay Terrace, Fresh Market, Marsh, Lowe's, etc), entertainment (Regal Cinemas), food (restaurants at Clay Terrace and DT Carmel,) and lived right across the street from an awesome park (Cool Creek). Also, as the pp said, Westfield and Carmel are top ranked school districts. People actually move to the area so their kids can go to school there.

We now live in Fishers, which we are growing to love, but we still miss our old neighborhood. ?HTH!

  • We live on the west side of Carmel and love it.  We are close to everything but away from the mess of Castleton.  We are about 25 minute commute downtown, there are multiple groceries within 5 miles (including Trader Joes for us), traffic is easy and the schools are great.

We moved from Fishers and don't regret our move at all!!  (I have also lived South and West and would chose the North side any day!!)

  • Thanks ladies!  Just trying to get an idea of good places to live!
