Hey ladies, anyone live in/from Eau Claire?

DH and I are from the twin cities but currently live in Chicago.  We will be moving away from here in 2011 and are thinking about Eau Claire.  We are hoping to live in a smaller community town (even thinking Chippewa falls), so any reviews about the area would be great!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! Expecting again after IVF Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Re: Hey ladies, anyone live in/from Eau Claire?

  • I lived in Chippewa and Eau Claire (and surrounding area) for about 19 years (ages 11 to 30).

I really wouldn't recommend Chippewa. It tends to be really insular and has REALLY gone down hill in the last few years. Lots of vacant buildings that used to house businesses.

I like EC a lot better, of the two I would definitely pick EC.

BTW, need a house? lol I happen to have one. :) About 2 miles out of town on a quiet, dead-end road with 8 acres and Lowes Creek flowing right through the property.

Seriously that is exactly what I want!  Although we aren't moving for another year+!

  • If you need any more tips on the area, let me know. Like I said, I lived there for a long time (but I'm not FROM there, so I think I can be a little more objective. lol)

  • Hello Fellow Adoptive Mom (to be!)-

We live in Madison, but Quinn was born in the Eau Claire area so we spent a lot of time up there the month before he came home (while he was in bridge care).   It is a nice community.  Close enough to Minneapolis so you won't go too crazy.  We love the diversity in Madison, but Eau Claire is known for being a nice place to raise a family.  I wouldn't really consider smaller towns around there . . . EC is not huge, and the small towns are really small.

  • I realize Im ages late, but am just catching up on posts!

I currently live in EC, Its a great town! There's not a whole lot of super exciting stuff to do, but there ARE things to do, you just have to know where to find them!

With a little one, there's the Childrens Museum, Chaos Waterpark, Action City, the EC Indoor Sports center (open a couple days during the week w/open 'gym', we've taken my niece & nephew since they were newborns), the YMCA...etc.

There are great parks, close ski hills (maybe 45 minutes + depending on where you go), AWESOME bike trails......

Ditto close enough to the Cities for travelling (big airport), shows, or just something different to do (MOA, their childrens museum, science museum...etc)

EC is also close to Wausau which has a great ski hill, more indoor waterparks....etc.

If you're looking for a place to live, my BIL is actually a real estate broker. He owns a For Sale By Owner company, part of his 'job' is assisting buyers too! Check out his website!

GL! HTH! & PM me if you need any more info or links about the area. I really LOVE living here. & I grew up in a 'big' city (Mke) & when I go back there, I can't wait to come home!

Oh, & for the record, Chippewa Falls isn't that bad! Plus they're home to Leinenkugels brewery! Offering tours & free samples!
