AW: we're insured!!!

DH started his job last Monday, and it's taken a full week to go through all the policies, options, ect, ect.  But today, we submitted all of our choices on his work laptop and it's immediately in effect!!!! What a relief.

I am in shock DH has made it for 5.5 years without insurance without any major issues.  I've been uninsured for 9 months and have been (minor) sick - but thankfully everything has been easy to pay out of pocket.

Whew.  I feel like we've dodged a bullet and I feel so relieved to be covered again. Who knew deciding on a 401k, heath, life, dental and vision insurance could be so fun!

Re: AW: we're insured!!!

  • That is very exciting! And your DH is very lucky to not have anything happen in the last several years.
  • That is great news. I thought it usually takes about 60 to 90 before you can be insured?

i know!  they said it's actually even retroactive from his first day of work.  We just finally picked our plans and made the decisions.  We're thrilled and feel very very lucky.

  • Yeah for you, its such a good feeling! My company is the same way, we start the insurance effective immediately.

how is he liking the new job?

    Amy

  • YAY!

with the exception of one place, every job my husband has had the insurance went into effect retroactively from his start date.

The one place it didn't was fine b/c the place he had just left the ins went through the end of the month and the new one started the first of the month so there was like a week w/out.

  • Awesome! I've only not had insurance for a few months between college and my first job but it was so scary! Your DH is very very lucky. One trip to the ER for even a sprained ankle could have sucked!

Amy - he's really liking it.  There is tons and tons of learning to be done - but it seems pretty interesting to him, and everyone has been super nice to him.  They told him he probably won't be a "productive" member of the team for about 3 months... so that's how much he needs to learn about the new programming languages, ect.  Thanks so much for asking.

I know!  Especially considering he plays soccer at least once a week with a competitive men's team I cannot believe we got so lucky.  Funny enough, he had a co-op during college for about 7 months at a local company and he was insured during that time... twice during that 7 months I had to take him to the hospital (lock jaw, and then to a jaw specialist).  As soon as his insurance went away... no more issues.  Hopefully now that we're covered again, he won't start falling apart...

  • that's awesome!  I don't think you truly appreciate benefits until you have a job without them;(

If he gets really sick you'll have to say "Honey, I think the only cure is to quit your job" ;)
