I
fell in L-O-V-E with Edward in Twilight and it continued through New
Moon and Eclipse and fell deeper in love with him in Breaking
Dawn...maybe it was seeing him as a groom, then husband and then father
that just warmed me...connected him with real life situations (albeit,
slightly Sci-Fi slanted) or just because his character is written so
lovable. Whatever the reason, I love him! (Brett better watch out -
hehe!) This book definitly had a more Sci-Fi twist through out its
pages than the previous three, but I think it worked. Maybe a bit far
fetched but having established the characters and relationships in the
previous three books, the storyline was able to flex a bit more, I
think.
I was also extremely happy that Bella and Edward had some
more *intimate* moments...included the big honeymoon pillow shredding,
bed frame ruining weeks! It was about time!!! Speaking of the
honeymoon, I want to go spend a few weeks on Isle Esme...anyone else?!
How awesome and paradise-like would that be?!
Overall, this book
gave me the series with the loose ends all tied up nicely, the way I
like this in books...and in life as well, but that is another blog for
another time! Edward and Bella are a happy family, Jacob imprinted
with the baby...which keeps the Jacob - Bella relationship in tact
somewhat and the Cullen family is as one. I also loved that Charlie was
brought in on the secret lives of the Cullen's and Jacob...I really
think keeping the secret from Charlie would have bothered Bella for
years if it had not come out. Especially with Renesmee around. Which,
by the way is a weird name! I loved the sentiment behind the name and
the middle name flows nicely, even combined as it is...but the first
name is a mouth full for me, more so than the other character's names.
Definitely
worth the midnight release sleep deprivation and worth waiting until I
could spend about 5 hours of undivided attention lost in the world of
vampires and werewolf/shape shifters!!!!!
Re: SPOILERS!!! Breaking Dawn...SPOILERS!!!!
i don't normally post, but I am so with you about Breaking Dawn. I warned my husband in advance that I would not be available on Saturday because I was going to be reading. I went to the midnight release and had a hard time not reading through the night.
I agree that the physical part of their relationship was past due. I liked the way she wote about it, without being super graphic, mostly because I do realize a younger audience is reading it as well. I thought it was funny how they discussed the intimate relationship between Rose and Emmett it really brought out how they pass their time and how strong the emotions are.
I was really wondering how Stephenie Meyer was goiing to wrap this story up. I am glad that Jacob is still around, even if it is a little weird that there is an addition to the family. I thought it was nice that they had a child, even if it was strange. I also like how they showed what Bella's extra power evolved. I wondered about that.
I always wondered if all the dreams she has had in the books would become part of her power. She seemed to forsee things happening, even if they were not always clear. I kind of thought that would have been discussed.
I like in this one how she came into her own, yes, she is even more with Edward, but she also came into herself, and spoke more freely. She seemed to feel more herself, more centered, than in the other books.
I just couldn't help myself posting, I can't wait to read the final book again, see if I missed anything. I am a little sad that the story is over. Although I believe she is writing the first book from Edward's point of view, I read the first chapter online, and it was really interesting. I am looking forward to that book coming out. maybe she will branch out to Jacob and Renesmee and write about them. probably not but I can dream.
I completely agree on the Bella special powers thing...it was also super nice to see her with confidence and strength in this book! It made me like her more...because she is an actual person with feelings and thoughts AND acting on those or at least expressing them more freely!
I can't wait until the Edward POV book comes out either!!

Okay, okay, I finally got my book a few days ago and I am DONE!
Fab-u-lous!!!
At first when I got to the point where she was pregnant I was VERY skeptical-I kept thinking that this was not where the book was supposed to go. But I was very pleased with how everything tied together and how it all ended. I did kind of want to see the Volturi get their's, but that's okay, I think it's coming.
I also found it very interesting that she did the middle section from Jacob's point of view-I can understand why, Bella's POV at that point would not have been very interesting. It would have been chapters full of being in pain, hanging out with Rosalie and having your bones broken.
I agree that she left it very open for a possible Jacob/Renesmee book. That would be interesting, but I hope it's not from Jacob's POV. While his chapter headings are very amusing, I find her writing from Jacob a little bit more...tiring to read. Maybe that's because I'm not the biggest Jacob fan
I agree, too, that the intimacy scenes were great and very tasteful.
I was very mad at Alice for a little while there. Should have known better and trusted her. Duh, Alice would never do anything so horrible...
FINALLY!!! I read pretty much from Friday night through Saturday...so worth it. Breaking Dawn was NOT what I had expected. At. All. I still really got into it and liked it.
However, as I am a HUGE Jacob fan, I thought it was a little schmaltzy that he imprinted on Nessie. And really, the name Reneesme bothered me through the whole book. I hate it. Nessie is much preferred, imo.
I liked Edward more in this book - a lot more, in fact, than in the previous two books. I thought he had many more redeeming qualities. The whole baby issue, was really out there, but then I remembered that it's a book about vampires, so it SHOULD be out there.
Did I like the book? Yes. I think. I'm still not sure. I think I'll need to read it again. Crap. I think that means I liked it.
I agree, I had a problem with the baby thing for a while. I kept wondering how it is that vampires cannot bleed or cry, but they have semen??? Anybody else curious about that?
And I agree that the name Renesmee or whatever was stupid-I kept trying to figure out how to pronounce it for the first 5 chapters it was introduced...
I have never been a Jacob fan...at least in a relationship with Bella Jacob fan but the chapters written in his perspective were good...I really liked reading the background story of the new pack/Alpha situation.
Which by the way, did anyone wish the resolution with Sam before the Voltorui and after was written? I hated how it was just a brief...things were ok ish!

Ditto! Also, I was really sad that Leah didn't imprint on anyone...she is so lonely having to know and see Sam imprinted on someone else...she needed someone to love too!

Yeah, I really don't understand how that works out either, and why it would be compatible with a human partner but not a vampire. And Bella, at a rather immature 18 yo, was automatically and unequivocally excited about finding out she was pregnant and then parenting once Nessie was born. I'm 30 and pregnant, and I'm still absolutely terrified at times about being a first-time parent. Especially with her sometimes tumultuous parental situation, it would've seemed a lot more real if she'd been worried about how she'd be as a parent.
That was one of the things that I felt cheated about in this book- it felt like all the uncertainty and conflicts and grey areas that made the other books so interesting were lacking in this one. Several things, like the conflict b/t the packs (as pp's have mentioned), Bella turning into a vamp, Jacob adjusting to the change, the Volturi not killing the wolves because, oops, we forgot to mention they're not actually werewolves, and the Volturi's visit just seemed to be resolved too easily. I was looking forward to seeing how the conflict between becoming a vamp and leaving Charlie & Renee would work out, and I felt that Meyer totally copped out on that, too, and avoided what could've been rich dramatic material.
I was accidentally spoiled on the whole baby plot point when I saw a button on Facebook that said, "Bella shouldn't be allowed to name a dog, let alone a child." After reading the book, I really have to agree. Renesmee Carlie sounds more like something that a 13 yo would come up with for online fan fiction than a credible character from a published author. I am still entirely squicked out about Jacob imprinting on the daughter of the girl he loved.
So I guess I'm the divergent opinion about this book. There were parts that I liked, and it was a quick read like the others, but overall, I was disappointed in it.
Gosh, Mel, can't you tell them to wait?? (j/k)
I'm super excited for the movie to come out - and they are releasing it three weeks earlier than originally planned (something else had its release date moved).
I'm a much bigger Edward fan after this book, but I still liked Jacob (before he got all imprinted and whiny in this book - not very attractive).
I still feel badly for Leah - she's in a sucky position (no vampire pun intended).
