Canon PowerShot SD970IS or SD980IS: Yay or nay?
Would you recommend either of them?
If so, which one is better?

I'm guessing you've used Canon's camera comparer already?
From that comparison alone, it seems as though the 980 is the better choice - more zoom, lighter, faster shutter.
What is it about those two particular camera models that you like though? Are they your favorites? Have you handled both of them already?
Don't limit yourself prematurely. What could be better for someone else might not be better for you.
