I don't want to sound ungrateful, but our sales meeting starts next week, and it's in freaking Palm Springs, and our hotel rooms are $305/night. I'm sure we get a group discount, but I doubt that they're discounted to $150 apiece, you know?
Why, in this economy, are we spending that kind of cash? We'll probably have 30 people there for a minimum of 4 nights apiece. Plus airfare. Plus food and drinks, which is never cheap with this crowd. For a sales meeting. It's not some kind of reward trip for top performers or anything, everyone is required to go, whether you broke all previous sales records or sucked.
I don't want to sound like I'm complaining about staying in a nice place. Better that than some sketchy place. But why Palm Springs in January, peak season?
Last year it was at the Inn at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, which wasn't cheap either. Nothing like sitting in a conference room being jawboned about keeping expenses down as you're spending well into the five figures for a meeting.
Am I overreacting, or is this dumb?
Re: the opposite of a soup kitchen party
I would rather a bonus, and The Courtyard by Marriott, but that's just me.
