Planning 70th B-day party for dad

My father lives outside of Phoenix and will be turning 70 next year.  My sister and I live in other states, but want to throw him a party.

I know that lots of friends and relatives will want to fly in for the event, so I am thinking of just holding it in a hotel there in Phoenix -- everyone can just stay in the hotel for the weekend.  I am thinking about 60-100 people with about 40 staying in the hotel itself.

Can anyone recommend a good hotel for such a function?  My dad and his wife live in Gold Canyon, so we would probably want a hotel toward that side of Phoenix.  I would like to keep the price point on the hotel rooms at less than $150 a night.

Thanks in advance...

Re: Planning 70th B-day party for dad

  • I would check out the pointe hilton squaw peak

    Arizona Grand Resort

    The Millineum

AZ Hotel prices are lower in the summer and Higher in the winter, kinda of the reverse of everywhere else because of our weather. So if its in the summer you will pay waaay less for some of the nicer resorts like the biltmore or the phoenican

  • Gold Canyon is quite a ways outside of Phoenix actually.  It's very east. I'm not familiar with the Gold Canyon area, but I did a photo shoot in a home over there and I do recall passing a couple of hotels (I'm talking like Hampton Inn type hotels.)

I'm really thinking that if you wanted a resort type of place, you may have to venture into the valley a bit. Try Chandler or Mesa. You can try the Mesa Hilton... it's just off the freeway that goes to Gold Canyon.

If you have a list of hotels (and their locations) we can probably help out as far as telling you if it's a "nice" place. :)

Hope this helps a bit! :)

  • Thanks for your replies.  I was already looking at the Arizona Grand because it looked so lovely, but the room prices seemed high and while I could afford it, I have to stay in budget for the rest of my family.

I will check back with other hotels to get the 911 on them from you locals.

    Thanks!

  • There is like a holiday inn or best western type hotel about 1/2 mile down the road from the AZ Grand. The hotel is in the AZ Mills Mall parking lot. I bet there is a shuttle, if not a $5 taxi ride would get them there. just an FYI
