I hear boxers have super sensitive skin. We've noticed that since its gotten cold, Macy has been licking her belly so much that she's rubbed it raw. she also itches herself a lot more (no fleas or anything, we've checked). someone at the dog park yesterday with a boxer says their dog is basically always on benadryl! does anyone else do anything special for their pup? i may just take her to the vet tomorrow but was hoping someone might have experience with this and could save us a trip
Re: Boxer Moms
I'm pretty sure you feed her a great food, so I doubt it's that. When we were in Austin for the holidays Bella's allergies were HORRIBLE. Paw chewing, gunky eyes, sneezing the whole bit. She also gets benadryl. The dosage is 1mg per pound. Bella's just over 50 so she gets two a day on bad days. The capsules make her super sleepy, so I give her the tablets. The tablets don't seem to make her as loopy. I just do the benadryl when I notice hers are bad...typically Cedar season.
I'd try the benadryl for a couple days to see if it works. Also, after walks or trips outdoors make sure you take a damp cloth and wipe off her paws, legs, and belly. That seems to help Bella a lot as well. Gets all the pollens off.
Bella has super sensitive skin. We've given up on collars for good I think with her. They rub all the hair on her neck off...I've tried just about every fabric and leather possible.
Thanks!
Yea we feed her the grain-free Wellness food and she seems to do really well on it. The itchiness really seems to have only started in the last month (which is about when cedar season starts... we also had the Christmas tree in the house too!) so maybe it is just allergies!
I'll try wiping her off with a damp towel and the benadryl to see what that does for her
