Six registries?!

I was looking at the website for a wedding we've been invited to and the couple is registered at six different places.  Is this normal?

Re: Six registries?!

  • I dunno.  It sounds excessive.  But, now that I am married and have stepped away from wedding planning, I find that I understand that people do some stuff that I wouldn't have done, and thats ok.  Maybe they were trying to make it easy for people to get presents by giving many options, or maybe they were just trying to get as much loot as possible.  Who knows?
  • Yeah, I guess.  Dh & I had both lived on our own for several yrs before we got married and really didn't need that much.  They've lived on their own for 5yrs more now than we had at that time so I guess I'm just surprised they need or even want so much stuff at this pt in their lives.
  • I'm sorry.  It is a lot.  I'm just having a weird morning and thinking too much.
  • did you look at the registries?  are all 6 of them really full?  sometimes people will ask for the same gift on a couple different registries, especially department stores that aren't available all across the country.  my DH really wanted pilsner glasses and the only ones he liked were at Crate & Barrel, so we registered there, but only for those 4 glasses.

so - do i think 6 is too many?  no.  not by itself.  if all 6 are complete registries where they're asking for 10 million towels in all different colors, etc, then maybe it's a bit much.  it just depends.

  • I think it depends on how big the wedding is. If it's over 300 then I'd say that's fine.

For a normal size wedding of 100-150 then that's a lot. I think most do 2-3. I had 120 and only did 2.

  • Yeah, seems like a lot unless they are having a huge wedding. We're registered at 2 places, though we're going to add Home Depot or some place so FI can put some tools on and feel included. But I actually feel like 3 is pushing it. I considered deleting my Macy's registry, once I realized that BB&B carries even more pieces of my china, but I loved the Martha Stewart kitchen wares...I digress.

It seems like too much to me, but to each their own. I can understand finding something you love at one store and being compelled to add a registry if they're the only ones who have it, but I also figure we can buy those things for ourselves.
