Anyone that's military?

and live in base housing?  Which ones do you live in? My husband and I are moving to San Diego in Feb, so we want to know which ones to stay away from, or good ones? We do have a son, he'll be 16 months when we move.

Thank you ladies!!!

Re: Anyone that's military?

  • I'm stationed at Camp Pendleton, but I live off base.  Which base will your husband be reporting to?  From what I've seen, families generally do not get to choose in which housing development they reside.  Housing is also structured according to rank in most cases, so your options will vary depending on whether your husband is enlisted or officer.

Also, you may want to call the base housing office and place your name on the wait list, if you already haven't done so.  My husband and I considered living in base housing, but the wait list was so lengthy and we decided it was in our best interest to find an off-base apartment.

I don't know very much about housing at MCRD San Diego, but I'm fairly familiar with the complexes on Camp Pendleton, so if you need more information, I can try to help you out.  Good luck with your move!

  • We are getting stationed at 32nd Street.  And, we were told that we do get somewhat of a choice on which ones we stay at. I know there is a ton to look at.

As soon as we can find a decent one in a decent area, our name will go on the wait list. We did see the most recent wait list and it was 2-4 months.

Thank you so much for helping!

  • I decided to do a google search for 32nd Street since I haven't heard much about it and came across a post on the Nest's Military Newlywed's board from June.  The poster, futuremrspage, is moving there at the end of September, so it may be helpful to get in touch with her and other military spouses on that board.  I'll try to post the link below so you can read the thread.

  • We are military, but stationed at Miramar. We are moving into Murphy's Canyon on Wednesday. We know a lot of people that live there, and everyone likes it. It's in a great central area. Of course, since you're going to be at 32nd st, it may not be your best option, but I'd look at traffic patterns at peak travel times. The guys generally have to be at work so early in the morning that they beat a lot of traffic (at least my Marine does!) So it may mainly be the evening that is the issue. There is also Admiral Hartman, but I've never seen it. It may be a little closer.

to look at a traffic map, go to www.traffic.com and do a search for san diego.

let me know if you have any other questions!

  • The wait list is to long for us to be at Murphy Canyon.

We still are not to sure yet
