San Antonio Nestie in Search of Vday Ideas

Hi girls!! I tend to post on the Cooking board but I thought I'd come over here to ask ya'll a local question.

I want to do something cool for Valentine's day with DH. We've lived here 3 years and I know there are awesome venues in San Antonio that we don't know about or never look into. We are celebrating on the 13th instead of the 14th due to schedules but any ideas ya'll have would be fantastic. We aren't into the bar scene so anything besides that...The more ideas the better!!

 Thanks in advance!

  • What kind of place are you looking for? We don't usually do anything big for Valentines day, we like to find places that have a more intimate feel. We have one place on the river walk we like to go b/c it is small and has live music. Or there is a little italian place close to where we live that has a good atmosphere and we can just go there and drink wine on their patio.

I think it just depends what you want to do.

  • We don't really have much of a preference. But since it's a Saturday I figured we'd spend the day out and then end up somewhere nice for dinner. So restaurant recs are greatly appreciated. I just wasn't sure if there were any really cool places to hang out during the day in San Antonio??
  • Well if you find a nice spot to spend the day out let me know. I've heard the Japanese Tea Garden is nice, and its close to down town so it might be a good place to go in the afternoon and then go to dinner. We usually go out of the city when we are trying to spend the day together. I think this year we are planning on going to enchanted rock & do some hiking during the day and then head back here for dinner.

  • Hey there! I'm a total WC lurker! I really love Sorrentos italian restaurant in alamo heights. It's the only place I've eaten where the food requires absolutely no salt or pepper or anything added because it's just perfect. It has a nice cozy atmosphere. During the day it could be fun to just go stroll through the botanical gardens or check out the art galleries at blue star. Other than that, I have no ideas. They don't say "keep san antonio lame" for nothing. Let us know what you decide!

Thanks for your help :) I'll let ya'll know...Blue Star could be cool, we're both museum nerds so that could be fun..All I know is so far we're going to get a hotel downtown so we feel like we're getting away.

  • Biga on the Banks is very yummy and intimate!  It's on the riverwalk.

  • I dont' really have any suggestions, but even if you're celebrating Valentine's on the 13th, I would highly suggest you make reservations. Every place gets ridiculously booked.
