Re: poll: anniversary & cake

  • we just had ours... ugh.

the frosting was still really good - but the cake was dry dry dry.  DH still loved it, though...

  • I picked didn't eat but that was because the baker dropped the cake on the wedding day and when he remade it he left out a layer, so we were short cake. Oh well!!!

  • Ours wasn't very good, but it wasn't wrapped properly to begin with.  I don't know if it would have tasted better had it been wrapped the correct way.

    :-)

  • Ours was great!  Before our honeymoon I left my mom VERY specific instructions on how to wrap it and store it, on pain of death, lol.
  • I've heard of some bakers that will make you an anniversary topper for free as part of their package, but ours didn't. I'm hoping it will be good, we still have a few months to go!
  • We ate ours a week later!  We got married at The Broadmoor up in Colorado Springs and they made us a beautiful cake... but it was supposed to be vanilla bean layered with strawberries.  Well the cake we had at our wedding didn't have any strawberries in it!  So the morning we left, they made us ANOTHER mini cake the way it should have been!  It was awesome.  We were in CO for 2 weeks and towards the end we had a big family party at DH's moms house so we have that mini cake for the party! Smile
  • Ours was saved by a family member but then left out for a week so i threw it out.

However, my mom ordered us a mini wedding cake from the same baker in the same flavor on our 1st anniversary and it was soooo good.

  • a lot of my brides recently are opting to skip saving the top tier and instead order a small copy cake from the baker a year later. :)

Our baker did this-so ours was fresh and delicious!! Smile

we were supposed to get a smaller cake as part of our package, only for the cake lady to retire before our first yr anni.  Crying and Angry

  • I didn't vote.  We ate ours a year later and it was fine.  It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad by any means.
  • We ate some of ours after we got home from the honeymoon and then pitched it.  Freezer space is at a premium at our house!  I'm going to go pick up some cupcakes in our wedding cake flavor for this weekend.  (And, yes, AW - one year anniversary on Sunday!)

  • We saved some of our cake but ate it on the one month because we knew it wouldn't taste too good in a year. Our plan is like PP - order a small cake for the one year .
  • I got married at Barr Mansion and they actually were kind enough to GIVE us the recipe for our carrot cake!  It was 100% organic and didn't even last until the next morning really.  They said they'd make me one free of charge but I opted for the recipe.  Now I make it for Valentine's and our anniversary!

  • I only took one bite and it was a tiny one at that.  So I can't tell you if it was any good.  DH insisted that I eat the tiny bite so I did it to get him to leave me alone.  Since I have a finicky stomach I never know what will upset it and I told DH that I really didn't feel like making a trip to the ER on our anniversary after eating a year old cake.  Ewwww....
  • We lost the packaging the cake lady gave us. So we took the top layer and put it in a huge plastic salad container our caterer had left behind. It had a lid but wasn't even real storage, it was displosable.

Soo a year later, I remembered to thaw it out, and DH and I are telling ourselves, "One little bite is enough for good luck. Just take one little bite..."

We are both in bed by this point with the flu (fun, right?) and I just bring up the whole top tier in the plastic container, and forks. I was much too sick for serving it on plates.

Anyways ... it was delicious!! I have no idea how, but it was great and we sat there with the flu, watching movies, and eating year old cake. We finished the whole thing in one sitting.

  • The trick is something like wrap in plastic wrap, cover w/a paper bag, tape up the paper bag, then cover w/a few layers of foil. Ours was yummy!

  • We're definitely thinking that we'll order a copy cake for the anniversary, but I don't know if we can wait that long to have the cake again. It was amazing. I want some right now! :P
