When did you get your 1st car? What car was it? When'd you get rid of it? Was it hard to let it go?
Re: 1/12
I got my 1st car in June 2008. It was my graduation gift from my parents for paying my own way through college. It's a 2008 Scion XB.
I still have my beautiful teal beast, but when we were in the car accident and I thought the car was totalled, I was quite upset thinking I'd lost my first car.
I was given the old family car my junior year of High School. Several of my friends had really nice sporty cars or luxury cars, and I drove a 1992 Dodge Dynasty... To help my car with her image, I named her Mercedes and she went by Sadie for short.
She was having some problems and so my parents sold her and bought me a VW New Beetle the summer between my Freshman and Sophomore year of college. So that was my first "new" car.
I drove her until 2006 when she started breaking down every day on my way to work in DC. I then sold her for a new 2007 Corolla. That is the car I drive today.
Um my first car was an '89 Ford Escort. In 1989! So it was new- sort of. We got it used that same year. The car sucked. It was awful. I would have rather had no car. Always stalled on me.
Then I got a 1991 Pontiac Grand Am- New (my Uncle worked for them at the time). Great! I got this when I went to college. Didn't get to take it to college. Okay whatever. Then I graduated college in 93 and my dad said "Happy graduation" and handed me the payment coupon book. Gee thanks! Oh but I can't drive myself to work because my 17 yr old sister needs it to drive to school (16 years later I still don't get that)- um hello I took the bus my entire Sr year of HS and survived. Did I mention I was paying for the car.
1995 another Brand New Grand Am. ALL MINE! I made the payments, no one else drove it.
I got my first car in February 2000... It was a 1991 Mazda 626(white)! I sooo did not know what to do with it because it had "roll down windows" and "manual seats"... my parents always had nice new cars with electric everything! Oh, the air didn't work and the radio didn't light up at night! But, it was MINE!! My parents traded it in October of 2000 for a NEW 2000 Honda Civic (Hunter Green and loaded). That was my senior year gift, so no, I was not even remotely sorry to see the Mazda go! In March 2002, we traded the Civic for a New 2002 Mustang... It was totalled in 2005... got a Mazda Tribute in 2005 and traded it in 2007 for a Mazda 6 (that I'm still driving). I'm ready for something bigger before we have children ;0)
And Yes, my parents spoiled me rotten... and DH gives me a hard time about it!
whew- ok, yes, seems like alot of cars, but some i either drove when i ran errands or worked in high school or when I was home from college. the others i kept for quite a while. I get the "car bug" from my dad-he rebuilt/restored British sports cars when I was younger and I helped him and went to shows with him-it was only natural for me to pick up a fascination with cars in general :-). what can I say... I LOVE to drive!!!
