PW: Holy bookshelves, Batman.

Re: PW: Holy bookshelves, Batman.

  • I can't really say anything, I dream of having a library (a room with only bookshelf walls). But I don't understand the random hangers and clothes hammocks all over.

  • Book shelves I don't mind. I would like more of them. The rest of that room makes me itch. And my bedroom is a sty.
  • I'm not nitpicking them *having* bookshelves. I'm giving a hearty side-eye at the fact that they're just flimsy board-and-bracket shelves that look like they could collapse at any moment.
  • Ok. I'll side eye the books.

I love to read too, but something has to go, and the large amount of books would be it for me. She doesn't have the room for them, IMO.

I don't like clutter, and that is just too much stuff to look at when I'm trying to fall asleep.

I have been known to pick up stuff before I can get into bed.

  • eh, books don't really take up that much square footage--shoved against a wall, you're loosing VERY little space.

(I can't imagine parting w/ books for space reasons.  $ reasons, yes.  But the space is indeed pretty negligable)

But her shelves look crappier than mine :-P

  • the flimsy is bad. I also question what kind of "theology" books they have. And I think they need to branch out from just Star Trek novels. JMO.
  • Oh, I've no trouble judging their taste in books ;-)
  • They have no clothing. Just books. This makes me sad. Not that I expected their room to be nice or anything, it's just sad, and there's 0 floor space. I'm pretty sure my bedroom+closet alone is the size of their entire apartment.

  • the lack of space doesn't bother me...but the lack of CLEAR space does.

I am NOT a neat person.  Or organized.  To put it mildly.

But I need CLEAR spaces in order to think.

My own desk = a disaster.  Which is why I go into my very neat and organized library to clear my head.

They don't have that--they don't have anywhere to not see random dresses hanging and have the clutter contained behind closet doors and curtains.

Heck, their kids don't have a place or an opportunity to make a 'super secret squirrel surprise' art project for mommy w/o her seeing it.  And that's sad.

  • Here's what I judge: Books are free from the library. I think owning books is a lot more of a luxury than, let's say, dental care.
