Poll IHO <1000

How do you make your bed? Do sheets and blankets go over or under pillows? What about the comforter? If you have a bedspread that's supposed to cover pillows, do you tuck it under the pillows first or just lay it over? Do you consider a comforter haphazardly lain over messy sheets to be a "made" bed?

Re: Poll IHO <1000

  • We don't.  If people come over, quilt goes over sheets and under pillows.  Or we shut the door.
  • We make the bed daily.

Sheet goes under pillows, comforter goes over and larger pillows go on top.

  • Ditto Heffa.  CLosed door policy usually prevails.

  • The sheet and comforter lay just under the pillows, so the bottom of the pillows meet the top of the comforter. The comforter neither goes over or under the pillows.

When I had a long comforter, I would put a small peice of it under the pillows and then lay the rest of the comforter over the pillows. This was how I was taught to make a bed.

I can also make hospital corners, but H doesn't like them.

  • I don't make the bed each morning. I'm weird.

But before I go to bed I make it. I have to have the sheets tucked in tight and smooth, and the comforter over. Then the pillows go on top.

If company is coming over, I make the bed nice. I put the euro shams on, and I make sure the pillows are arranged neater.

  • I half-make the bed: throw the comforter over top of the messy sheets/blanket and over the pillows.
  • Generally it's just throwing the down comforter over the bed to make it look neat. If there are people coming over, pillows over comforter, sheets tucked under mattress, comfortor adjusted so both sides are even. Decorative pillow in front of used pillow.

  • I do what PMeg does.
  • I just straighten out and pull up the sheet and blankets. We have no comforter.
  • Okay. I only really make the bed when I change the sheets, so once a week. I'm asking because twice since we've had guests here overnight. The guest room doesn't have a comforter yet, just sheets and a blanket. I always lay the sheets and blanket flat on the bed, and put the pillows on top, but both guests have put the pillows down and then spread the blanket on top of them, with no little fold or tuck. One person left the sheets bunched at the bottom of the bed, the other at least smoothed the sheet with the blanket. I wonder if I've been making my bed wrong all along, or if they've just never made their own bed before.

It doesn't actually matter, because I strip the beds and wash the sheets as soon as people leave. I was just curious, and EK's messy bed reminded me of it.

  • Are we surprised that her idea of cleanliness is subpar? You'd think by now that the nastiness would be expected.

Sheets, blankets, and comfortor all under pillows. Then pretty pillows on top of real pillows.

I only make our bed on weekends or when we're having company. Since our house is still pretty new,  I'm always worried that they'll want to see our room or something, so just in case I make sure it's made.Otherwise, there's still someone in it when I leave for work, and when I get home from work we're just going to get back into it in a few hours anyways.

  • I make the bed at night, on my side. We use separate sheets and blankets (so as not to fight over them all night) so it's hard for us to actually make the bed. Sometimes I do, but usually I just make sure my side is tucked in.

This, except for the daily thing.  DH will make the bed when he is the last one up, but I am not so dutiful.

  • I make the bed a few times a week, if I think about it. What I don't do is post pictures of our unmade bed on the gaadamn interwebs.
    ..
  • I don't make the bed on a daily basis.

But if I do, I put the sheets on, then the pillows under the flat sheet, the comforter over everything, pillows covered in the matching shams on top of our 'everyday' pillows over the comforter, and any 'additional blankets' are folded neatly at the foot of the bed.

  • No making of beds here.

When we have guests, the bedroom is a no-man's land.

If I ever got a wild hair up my butt to actually make it, it would be comforter folded down a bit and pillows above that. No shams. No flat sheet. We's Spartan like that.

  • I don't make the bed. I'm just going to sleep in it again, and no one sees my room except me & H.

There are chores that I believe have to be done - mopping floors, vacuuming, doing dishes and laundry. And there are chores that are just lame and pointless - bedmaking is definitely in this second category, and therefore, not something I bother with.
