You have got to be kidding me.

One thing DH mentioned is that I could possibly be a sitter/nanny whatever if the pay was good. I don't hate kids, and since I'll be having one of my own it would be good practice.

So I'm browsing postings. These women want someone to come to their house, watch their kid, drive the kid to soccer practice or whatever, possibly do some grocery shopping or light housekeeping for....$5-8/hr. Right. And they want you to be CPR certified and with multiple references. Why wouldn't I go work at McDonald's? At least then I could get a discount on my Big Macs.

Re: You have got to be kidding me.

  • Question: Is there, or is there not, standing water in your basement or garage sale makeup on your counter??

    Just checking.

  • 1. I do not have a basement in my house. There is no standing water.

    2. All of my makeup, save my mascara, has been purchased at Sephora. It was new and unopened. The mascara I got at Target. Again, new and unopened.

  • OK - You are seriously skirting Carrann territory. I am telling you this as a friend.

  • Meg, I don't know:

    Your situation.

    or

    You in real life

I do know that you need to step away from being a nanny. I think this is probably the last thing that you want to do so close to having your own crumb snatcher.

  • I can't do it. I'm laughing at these postings because of the pay. Hell, in HS I made more per hour babysitting.

DH suggested it because I said I wanted to work and get out of the house every day. I have a feeling this is not the way.

  • This is sooooo not the way to get out of the house.
  • Meg, before you go down that road I would sub. HS all the way.

  • Honestly, anything involving little kids is a 'calling' not a JOB.

One doesn't/shouldn't become a teacher because it's a job, one does it because they wanna do it.  Same for nannying.

The ONLY advantage to nannying is it being under the table...you'll make more real cash ANYWHERE else.

  • This sounds like your chance to do some of that volunteering you'd been wanting to do.

  • My mom just started a PT nanny job for FIVE kids under six (with another on the way). They're paying her (ready?) TEN AMERICAN DOLLARS/HOUR. I told her that was absolutely not enough.
  • I suggest you apply for a nanny position in your own house. Interview yourself in the mirror.

"Now, Pmeg. It says you worked for XYZ Co? Tell me about it"

"Well, Ms. Pmegalicious, I tripped the elderly, laughed at their misfortune, and snuck peanut butter across state lines on the regular"

*scribbling* Excellent, excellent. Well, as you know, I'm going to be a mother soon, and I can't be bothered to take care of, feed, or touch the child until it can talk back. That's where you come in. Are you opposed to doing these things?

"Absolutely not! I'll even nurse him! Also - I am available to sleep with your husband on nights you don't want to. My hourly rate is $30/hr but I'm willing to come down a little if I get a live-in position"

*doodling unicorns* "Mmhmm, mhmm. Well, I think this will be perfect. My husband will pay you. Extra for freaky activities. Does that sound ok?"
