I just picked my daughter up from school and while I was waiting in the car for her class to let out I noticed my car was running hot. It wasn't just hot but past the red line and off the meter HOT.
I decided to chance it and drive back home since I didn't see smoke (probably not the best idea but neither DW or I have phones right now and she is at work). On the freeway, smoke started coming from the engine and the Check Engine light came on. I made it home, gave it 5 minutes to cool down a little and popped the hood open to cool down more.
I have no idea what to do now. I have to pick DW up from work in 4 hours and I can't call anybody to help me. I posted on FB that I need help and am waiting for a reply.
This sucks.
Re: Ready to cry
Oh no! Car trouble is so stressful! This happened to me last year with my car. It ended up being that I needed a new thermostat (the one I needed for my car was less than $150 I think...).
Did it only start to overheat when you were going higher speeds? Becuase with mine, it would only overheat once I got over 55/60 (highway). So at first, the mechanic didn't know what was wrong with it - he only drove it around the block, going slower, and of course it was fine. So if yours is the same way - make sure to let the mechanic know that when you take it in, that way they'll test it at the higher speed and save you some aggravation going back and forth. I mean, your car could definitely be a totally different situation - just thought I'd share in case that's helpful
Good luck!!

I didn't realize it was overheating until I saw it past the red line already... It seemed fine when I dropped everybody off this morning.
My BIL just showed up to fix the sink and he is usually the one to work on my car so I am having him take a look at it. PHEW! I burst out of the house with my arms in the air, yelling "Thank you! Thank you!" when he pulled into the driveway. He looked at me like I was crazy, I thought someone called him and told him what was going on but I guess not. LOL.

Sorry to hear that! Car trouble definitely stinks.
I don't know how much you know about cars, and I'm no car expert... but check your coolant and see if you're low. (And if you have to add some, check and see if your car takes the green kind or the orange kind because you can't mix them.)
That's great! Good luck! (I must have been typing my other post still when this happened)

We got some bad news this morning about my car... BIL was able to weld the radiator and it is now holding water BUT I need a new header. He said it's going to cost around $750.00 for a new header and labor. Ugh.
