Here's what I don't get (re: Conan/Leno)

They're taking a guy who's only had declining ratings for years and putting him ahead of a guy who's had growing ratings and whom they just spent how many millions of dollars promoting when they bumped him up to The Tonight Show.

Sure, some people dislike Conan. But the Leno die-hards aren't going to switch over to Letterman. To them, that's sacrilegious.

And! If this happens and Leno gets the tonight show back and Conan leaves, people will be pissed. I foresee Leno being booed and junkpunched in his opening monologue. The NBC bigwigs need to get their heads out of their asses.

(Clearly, I've put a lot of thought into this. And FTR, I'm on Team Conan.)

  • I think there was something in Jay's contract about it being the first show (in primetime, or otherwise). Andplusalso, Jimmy Fallon is the only funny one in the bunch.

  • You're not alone.  This whole thing is making me angry.  Wasn't Leno retiring???  Then he let NBC talk him into this stupid prime-time thing.  And now he thinks it is okay to just royally screw over Conan?

Leno isn't even funny.  His show plays to the lowest common denominator.  But old people like him, so he gets whatever he wants?  Booooo, NBC.  Booooooooo!!!

  • I don't think NBC talked Leno into it, I think Leno talked NBC into. As the date for the turnover got closer, I remember hearing that Leno wasn't ready to be done with the show. But Conan has a contract, so Leno and NBC came up with this. On top of that, Leno's show is cheaper to produce.
