Just had people let themselves in our house while home!

My DH is working from home today and we had just returned from being out. Our house was a bit messy because we haven't had a showing in a while and the agents always call first. Not today! We heard people coming up to the door, the doorbell rang, door started unlocking from the outside, husband went to open it while Realtor was, she screamed, clients were startled. What a commotion! She said, "We didn't think anyone lived here", but then why would they ring the doorbell? There was no delay between the doorbell ringing and her unlocking the door!

Thankfully they waited outside for a few minutes while we scrambled around to clean up. I'm so glad we were home to do so and that we weren't getting busy or something!

  • That happened to me once when my old house was on the market.  Not fun!
  • That happened to us a lot last spring. Usually I'd hear them messing around with the lockbox and then answer the door. Have you had people looking in the windows of your house yet? Or wandering through your backyard? Not a fun experience and I don't look forward to having to do it again this spring.

Haha, yes. On Sunday, we were having a meeting with our agent at the kitchen table when through the window behind him we see a lady peeking through the fence into our backyard. Agent races out the door and asks her and her husband if they'd like to see the house. At least then, it was relatively cleaner because we'd just had friends over. It's ridiculous how fast it re-clutters though.

Another time, a girl in her 20's was peering in the front window on a Sunday morning and saw my DH in his boxers. That was funny. People often think no one lives here because we keep our cars in the garage.

  • totally not related, but just saw you are team blue. congrats! :)
  • That happened to us CONSTANTLY in college when the apt we were living in went up for sale. Once, I wasn't dressed and I was literally pushing on the door to keep one realtor out!
  • I was showing a property years ago in backwoods Bastrop and had set the appt with the husband who didnt tell the wife. We get to the house, I rang the doorbell..waited.. no one answered. So we went into the property, after looking downstairs for about 5 minutes we went upstairs to find the wife walking out of the bathroom with a towel on. Needless to say after some follow up with their listing agent she apologized on behalf of the husband who fessed up to dropping the ball.  Glad we didnt give the lady a heart attack.
