My summer is over... boo!

This was my first summer off ever as a teacher and today I started a new professional development training that will last this week and pre-planning is next week.  So summer for me is over Sad  Any other teachers out there in the same boat?  Good luck to all teachers and Nestie Kids out there for the beginning of school!

Re: My summer is over... boo!

  • Yep.  My first pre-planning day was today.  Students report on the 11th (a week earlier than all the public schools - double BOO!)
  • Yikes!  where do you teach?
  • Private school in Brevard County.  (On the positive side, it means that we will be getting out of school 1 week earlier for summer!)

that is a bright side to it!  This summer has been good to me, but I am kinda ready to head back.

  • Maddy starts school on August 18th, and I'm looking forward to getting her back into a routine again.  And I'm excited about her new school...I had ZERO problems enrolling her!  It was a major relief.
  • Is it weird for you teachers to have all that time off? I would love it but I am such a creature of habit that I think it would be really hard for me to have to adjust to such a different schedule.

  • We have 1 inservice tomorrow and inservices all next week, starting school officially on the 18th. I am excited - I'm used to doing summer school or working all summer, so I am ready to get back in the swing of things (this was my first summer off in 11 years!!!!!!!).

MrsErinH - the first week off is very nice (for me). After that, I start to crave "normality" and want to go back to schedule.

It was weird the first year that I took the whole summer off.  My first 5 years teaching, I worked a summer job.  But after that, I took advantage of the time off to do some traveling (mostly to visit family throughout the U.S.).

Now that I have DS, I'm really enjoying the time that I'm spending with him.  He's at a very fun age and I'm getting to witness and experience things that I wouldn't be able to do if I was working all day.

So returning to school is sort of a love/hate thing.  I enjoy teaching, love the kids, but I'm going to miss my little guy like crazy!

this was my first summer off in 8 years of teaching, and as a newlywed (3/29) it was good for me.  Until about mid July when I was a little stir crazy!

  • I HOPE I will be starting soon - depending on whether or not I get a job!!
  • Good luck Jacki!!!!

I read somewhere you got a call back for a Pre K position?

  • I spent the entire afternoon filling out a NINE page application and faxing it back.  I'm going to stay on TOP of this one, because I would really like this job!  Either way, it's nice to have a lead, the job search has been so slow!
  • Oh wow. Sending you good wishes!

    You're on my prayer list!

  • My pre-planning starts on Monday. I only have a few more days of summer!! (Sigh!) I love teaching, but I do like having some time off.

That being said, I did four summer camps . . . so I worked a lot!

Sometimes I only had a week or two for summer -- and I just found out I need more time even it means not getting paid. (I don't get paid during the summer from my school -- so that makes it difficult.)

Hope everybody has a GREAT school year!
