Easy bread and granola bars recipes?
I'm thinking about trying to start making our bread for many
different reasons, mostly because it's cheaper and healthier. Does
anyone have any good, easy bread recipes that they like? I've never
made bread before and don't have a machine, if that changes anything.
I've
also thought about making my own granola bars because the Kashi ones I
get are getting kinda expensive! Anyone know any good recipes for
them??
Thanks!!
Re: Easy bread and granola bars recipes?
I use this recipe for sandwich bread: http://theflouredapron.wordpress.com/2008/01/28/american-sandwich-bread/ (there is a wheat variation in my cookbook that I can post for you tomorrow if you're interested).
There was also a discussion on "Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day" on MM today that you might be interested in: http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/29278926.aspx. If you scroll down in the thread someone explains what the system is, and there is a link to some recipes.
For granola bars, I use a recipe from a Nestie's blog: http://adventuresinmyfreezer.blogspot.com/search?q=granola. This link should take you both to the basic recipe and ways you can change it up. My favorite is pumpkin and chocolate chips...mmm!
Have fun!
Thanks for asking! I was thinking about making my own granola bars as well. I'm super excited to try out the link above.
The granola bar recipe posted above is from my blog - it's really flexible. Put in what you like, and you'll like them.
Get this book: Healthy Bread in Five Minutes A Day
I have the original book, and I love it. It makes great bread. The only downside is it uses mostly white flour, whereas the healthy book uses mostly whole grains (but require some more specialized ingredients like wheat gluten, which I can only find at Safeway here). Their website also has quite a few recipes and general info about the method:

I've made these granola bars. It's easy to mix and match your own dried fruits, seeds, nuts. too.
Alton Brown also has a good recipe for granola bars.
