Remind me about temp agencies...
I tried to find the other post about it from months ago but had no luck...
what temp agencies have you had success with in the portland area?
also...what exactly do you do? i've never gone to one before...i filled out the online stuff with office team and they said they'd contact me...but i did that once before and no one ever contacted me. i haven't applied with any others...but am i supposed to call them? how does it work?
Re: Remind me about temp agencies...
I probably posted about them. I worked for Volt for years and have worked through Action Staffing, Employment Trends, Adecco and Volt. Some of my friends have worked for Manpower, Modus and Kelly Services and some others. My knowledge isn't the best because I didn't work in a branch, I worked in corporate Marketing for Volt so I don't know all of the ins and outs but I can tell you what I've learned. I've always been very very pushy with them. I call on certain positions they post and I don't give up until I speak to that recruiter especially if I feel that I'm qualified. If there are no postings that seem to match up, I'll call anyway and ask to speak to a recruiter, who knows what's recently come in.
Each branch (at least from what I've noticed) gets their own listings and they don't necessarily work together. Don't expect that they all have your resume. Also different branches often specialize in different types of jobs i.e. administrative, light industrial, engineering, tech etc.
The positions I've taken through various agencies are mostly administrative, one was a higher level project manager. My husband gets contacted often for high tech contract positions.
If you have any specific questions, please don't hesitate to let me know.
I worked through Volt years ago as a Temp and loved it! It was a 6 month job and it was perfect for me. They found my resume on monster.com and I started the temp job 2 days later.
I have worked for Robert Half Int'l, which owns Office Team. I worked in their actual office, and I have to tell you, THEY SUCK. Email me if you want more deets.
I also worked in the office of Barrett Business Services, they did mostly manual labor hiring, not office stuff. I still have friends that work there.
I have to agree with you about RHI.. We have a sales guy here that used to work for them and he said they suck.. We reached out to them in November to see about hiring a temp to cover my mat leave (since they own Accountemps) and set up a meeting in December.. The lady flaked on us, but then once we told her nevermind we found someone else, she started stalking us. Needless to say, we won't use them again.
Volt was always able to get me working within a day or two of meeting with them.. They really do try to place people quickly!
