Stinky

I am a master flyer, and daughter of a pilot. You know I can do flying.

1. Don't drink. Seriously, it makes things worse. You'll feel sicker becuase air travel dehydrates you. Additionally, I think drinking just intensifies anxiety when you fly. Any time I see someone who is paranoid about flying and is drunk....bad news. Besides, puking in an airport lav is disgusting. Trust me.

2. If you have to check bags, you will probably have to pay. Check in online 24 hours before. You should see that you have the option to pay ahead to check your bags. It's often cheaper, and it's just as easy when you get to the airport. Make sure you print everything.

3. When you get to the airport, go inside. Don't use the skycaps. There is sometimes an extra fee to use the people outside. Go inside, and usually there is an agent directing people around. Just ask them. Tell them you checked in online, paid for your bags (if you did that), and that you need to drop your bags off. They'll tell you where to go. Again, when they give you your bag tag/claim ticket...SAVE IT. Just in case your bag is delayed/lost/whatever. I generally carry a folder in my bag that has a copy of my reservation, any printed tickets, the bag tag, and other reservations for hotels or transportation.

4. Definitely bring snacks. Just buy drinks at the airport.

5. Get there early. You'll reduce your anxiety if you know you have plenty of time. Plus, with the recent air scares...you never know how TSA/Security is.

6. Pack your carryon appropriately. Have your quart sized bag with any tolietries already packed. Wear easy to slip on shoes. Have your jacket off. THat way when you get to screening you can get through quickly. Also, never go behind the people who have kids. Find the business traveler. They tend to be quicker. If you have questions about security, go to the TSA website. It's very clear and easy to understand.

7. On the plane, the noises are normal. Just deep breaths, concentrate on relaxing, and after they are up in the air occupy yourself with a book and music.

If you have any questions, just ask.

Re: Stinky

  • I was hoping you'd respond. These are excellent.
  • Pemeg - you should go see the movie "Up in the Air". I actually thought of you in the airport scene where he's explaining the best way to get through security. Funny you would post this now since I just linked you with this movie in my head.
